HTPC and Win key

Hi everybody!

First let me say, I have purchased a copy of Win 7 Ultimate upgrade from my university. I am NOT, repeat NOT, asking about pirated software. I am asking about a copy of Windows Ultimate 7 Upgrade.

I have had issues recently with my system. After a whole lot of BSODs and reinstallations, I have isolated the problem and subsequently relegated that computer to being a home theater PC. During the setup, I was installing Windows. When I put in the key, it rejected it. I input it about 10 times, each time verifying it, and it kept rejecting it. I have installed this copy several times before, and had no problems previously. This is a fresh install, and the installation went smoothly up until that point. I did let it sit for about an hour during the installation. It sat at the point where you put in the username/password and then the windows key.

What could I be missing?

Try it this way, do not put in the key number and uncheck the box activate automatically.

When done activate by phone.

When you boot the WIn7 DVD it should scan the HD to see the prior OS and that alone should pass a flag to allow Upgrade version key, even if you then go on to use installer's Custom>Drive Options to delete, create and format new partition(s).
