Hi all

FYI:
Huawei e156g Mobile Broadband USB Stick
HP Pavilion dv7 2070ea
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

The laptop came preinstalled with Vista Home 64bit and i was able to use the mobile broadband without any issues.

I have installed Windows 7 Pro 64 in a dual boot config and it runs fine on wired or wireless connections, but when i try to use the mobile broadband i run into issues.

After the modem driver and software install and a few restarts I was able to get all the devices in the device manager to be happy, and i was able to connect via the 3 Connect software and access the internet. But after a few minutes Windows will inevitably lock up, regardless of what program is being used. The screen will freeze, there will be zero harddrive activity and the only course of action is to hold down the power button :(

The mobile broadbands company site says that the vista drivers should be happy on windows 7, but something isnt happy.

I really need to resolve this as my mobile broadband allows me to connect to various servers for work via its allowed IP address.

Is this the modem, the USB bus or something else?

I have checked the event log and there isnt anything useful in there.

Many thanks

Stephen

Hi Sexyfish,

Did you get anywhere with your freeze problem, as I have exactly the same issue with my E156G with Win 7 Ultimate.

I even found an update to the three software so I am on version 2.0.0.77 BL 77 of the connect software, but it still freezes.

Any help would be appretiated.

Cheers

I'm having exactly the same issue too, It will work perfectly for a short while then all of a sudden it just locks up completely and the only way to get it back is to turn off via the power button and restart.

I have spent some time looking for a solution, thinking it was another piece of hardware/software causing conflicts or whatever but It seems there are a fair few people with the same issue so now I'm not so sure.

Currently having this problem on an Acer 7738g Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, you can also get in touch via email: [email protected]

Thanks in advance guys.

I was having the exam same issue, using Windows 7 on an Advent Milano netbook with both Huawei e220 and e160g. I came across this link though, and removed AVG from my netbook and installed Avast instead. I'm giving it a try now, and it seems to be working fine. It's difficult to say without extended use however since the crash would sometimes be after 20 mins or so for me.

Hello,

I'm sorry I didn't update this thread but I have fixed my issue now, and you are correct.

It was AVG causing the problem, I found this out awhile ago but I forgot to post in here telling people, I have had a couple of e-mails from people who have seen this thread and had the same/similar issues and I'v told them all the same.

Thanks for the reply mate and now you know for certain that it is AVG. :)

Cheers! I have been having the same problem, but will go remove AVG (what a shame, does Avast work as well?).

Trying it now?!?!?

Thanks for posting this, in a way it's a relief to know that it's not only me who has this annoying problem!

Thanks to Sexyfish for posting this info and associating AVG with the wireless broadband freezes.

My wife was getting very frustrated at constant freezing of her Acer Extensa laptop running Win 7 whenever she plugged in her Dodo (Australia) wireless broadband modem. Dodo suggested uninstalling and re-installing their software but that did not help. I had no idea what was causing the problem until I found this post.

Removing AVG Free and replacing it with Avast has stopped the freezing today and I have built up brownie points with my wife for finally fixing it for her.

Thanks again

Hello Guy,

I have a same freezing problem when connected to broadband. A lot thread say that the solution for this problem is uninstalled AVG. But my AV is not AVG but McAfee. Is it McAfee also create this kind of problem? Anyone had experiance before I totally uninstalled my McAfee AV?
