:geek: Hi

I am new to Windows 7 - just 2 days of use so please be patient with me if I do anything wrong.

I have a 64bit version and yesterday I downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 using the magic key card.

Today I have received 45 windows updates for Microsoft Office but at the end of each update it clearly states |(32 bit Version) . Do microsoft send out updates I do not need? Should I be running the updates or have I got them in error.

Sorry but this has confused me a little and decided to ask for advice before trashing my new system.

Thank you in advance

Well, just because you have a 64bit OS, doesn't mean you have a 64bit version of Office. Even if you have a 32bit of Office 2010, Windows 7 can run the program using WoW64. To check and see which version of Office 2010 you have simply open any Office application. Open the File menu, and then select Help. On the right side, you’ll see information about your version of Office. It will show the suite version and included applications, as well as your precise version number and product ID.

Office 2010 is the first version of Office with a native 64 bit version, but by default, most users will be running the 32 bit version of Office 2010. The default setup for Office 2010 will install the 32 bit edition even on 64 bit systems so you can easily run older addins and VBA scripts for Office. The 64 bit version does let you use larger files, such as spreadsheets larger than 2Gb, but doesn’t offer many advantages for average users.

Please, don't trash Windows.
  1. Windows 7 64-bit can cope with 32-bit and 64-bit applications.
  2. 32-bit applications will be found under Programs (x86).
  3. 64-bit applications will be found under Programs.
  4. If you have a retail version of Microsoft Office 2010, you'll have a choice of installing either the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version.
  5. If you are receiving 32-bit updates then you have obviously installed the 32-bit version of Office, which is fine.
  6. One of the reasons people may need the 64-bit version is if they are working with Excel spreadsheets larger than 2GB, but most of the time you just need the 32-bit version.
