Hello all,

I just installed Win 7 Ultimate 64bit onto my computer. I now have a fresh install with no other software yet installed.

That being said, I cannot get onto the internet. Here is what I have for components.

Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem
Netgear GS105 Gigabit Switch
Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router
My Pc
Xbox 360
Macbook

The Macbook is connected via wireless, works just fine.
The Xbox is connected to the netgear via cat5e and works fine
The PC is connected to the netgear via cat5e and all I get is Unidentified Network.

I have tried to connect the PC to the Linksys, it still gives me the same problem.

I have run ipconfig /all and it would appear that I am not getting a valid IP, subnet mask or default gateway.

I have disabled IPv6

I have done all the basic troubleshooting, restarting unplugging things, removing network cards, uninstall/reinstall. None of it seems to have made any difference.

I did at one point setup the homegroup and was able to see the xbox and allow it access to the PC, so there is network just no internet.

I am at a loss. This thing was working fine with windows 7 earlier other than it was in serious need of a fresh install.

Please offer some suggestions so I can get back up and running.

Thanx,

Oompa

Ha, its funny you should ask that because after I got some sleep and went back to the issue to reassess, I found that I was not getting an IP because I had the modem connected to the switch, then the computer connected to the switch as well. The router was only hooked up to the switch as well. I was not getting an IP because the switch needs to be connected to the router and the modem needs to be connected to the router as well. I had it backwards and because of my blunder I was not getting an IP.

All I can say is DUH.......

Thanx for the reply and offer to help. Its all good now.
