Hi! My problem is this:my windows 7 install fails. i get only that blue desktop paper and moving mouse cursor.
And here is long story:I have two new Samsung 1TB hdd`s,then I install my Windows 7 home premium and it works very fine.
Then I gotta “great” idea:i want dual boot system with opensuse 11.3-oh yeah!!! ;)
1st hdd contains my windows and 2nd hdd is linux...
Then starts my really great problems. that linux install destroys my windows install-totally.i do not know why. And there is no any access to my hdd`s.
Solving problems:i have left my original samsung 500gb hdd with windows 7.i have try this:first I put my 500gb hdd back and I connect my 1tb hdd` s too-then I deleted everything from those new hdd`s.
And then again: I try install my windows 7 home premium os(by the way-it is genuine microsoft windows),and then there is this situation:blue desktop paper and mouse cursor.
And hardware:my dvd/cdrom working fine:i can install my old windows xp-if I want,i can burn disks etc.my keyboard and mouse are usb.. and I think there is something rotten in my keyboard... ;)
and short story:i can`t install my windows 7
So I need Your help, thank you! :hot:

Did you ever use the disc partition tool im not sure but i would split the 1 tb and then install windows and then after that is installed progress to install on the other drive that is not partitioned make sure the drive letter is not associeted with the c and d drive rename the drive to a new letter then try to install but you'll end up with three to 4 hdd on your system but you will be able to boot both os's Based on splitting them i could be wrong but just a suggestion

im not to experienced on dual boot but i sort of have a idea of how it would run so that is why i suggested this to you if im wrong i appologize in advance

i thought cmos was generally used in bad configurations and no booting i don't think that is the case you might even have a issue with you'e hdd

I would try to partion it first and see if splitting that 2000gb drive in half it might be for the greater good and it might install properly ussually people do this for dual boot same drive split partitions but i sugested spliting the first install the os and the second drive do the same thing split them both and install on lower gb partion

partitoning can be done by the os upon installation

What's up bro

First boot the system up on ur 500gb hdd with 7 and have ur 1tb hdd hooked up. Then go to disk management and delete the partition on the 1tb hdd. Next format the 1tb hdd. To do what you are wanting to do with Linux and windows you will need to make both hard drives primary but on seperate ide cables. If they are not on seperate cables or you are using usb you can do some research on Ubuntu by linux which is supposed to solve this issue. I have been having trouble because I want to install linux and windows on the same hdd on my laptop and every time I install Linux it deletes my boot.mgr file to boot Windows 7 up. That's my pickle. I hope I was able to give you some good pointers and help out.

Yes basically what ever method he is using will work it just needs to be configured properly. This will keep both drives from messing with the other one. Now what Ubuntu is saying is if you were to install on the same hdd u would need to use the recovery disc option to get windows back right because you have to install windows first because linux won't allow windows to be installed on the system easily afterwards.
First boot the system up on ur 500gb hdd with 7 and have ur 1tb hdd hooked up. Then go to disk management and delete the partition on the 1tb hdd. Next format the 1tb hdd. Now there is one other way to do this but it's using one hdd. You can get a tool (I'll find out which one) my partner used to make one hdd two hdds in one basically. It will split the hdd however you tell it to and they will be completely seperate from one another. It is supposed to take a couple of hours to complete it but I was told that it works.

I haven't used that or heard of it but not knocking it either. Now I just found one called perted magic and another good tool is Hirens Boot Disk.

The best arrangement for dual booting Win7 with Linux is to put the OS's on separate HD's booted via the BIOS. Set the preferred one to boot first, then boot the other one using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key every computer brand or mobo has.

Try wiping your HD before reinstalling Win7: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

GRUB will corrupt Win7 when on the same HD or when linking the HD's using GRUB boot manager.

Yea that's what has been happening to mine. Ubuntu will allow you to do it on a single hdd though.

well what partition program could he use to split then besides the os he is trying to dual boot with linux and win7 personally im not that deep yet to dual boot my system

Im too lazy as it seems to switch back and fourth os's

and as the very link i posted they dont offer it anymore anyway so no matter what he would have to look for one under win7 requirments
