Hi,

I have recently migrated to window7 from XP via clean install. Touch wood I was up and running in less than 40 mins. I am still finding my way in the world of win7. I need to copy my outlook files (pst) to new installed MS office on win7. Despite with admin privileges and ownership I cannot access outlook folder on win7 to copy the files. Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Seven Forums, Tany.

Can you access the ".pst" file through "File" > "Data File Management..." ?

Yes, I can. IMO this is win7 permission issue.

Hi there
the easy way is to download the pfbackup.exe file from MS - save the folders on to a USB stick then open them again on the nes syrem.

When you install pfbackup it gets incorporated into the main file outlook menu - as backup --much easier than archive or looking for some horribly named hidden folders.

you may be having a problem with junction points. The location of the outlook pst file is slightly different in Win7. So without knowing the path that you are attempting let me just point you to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and a very good article on junction points Svrops.com - Windows Vista Junction Points
hope this helps...let me know

Yes, I am using the same location. Infact, I have made myself owner of Documents & Settings folder and now I cannot open Application Data folder despite doing all I did to seek permission for Documents & Settings folder.

Thanks

Look at the path I put in my post....it does not include documents and settings folder, the documents and settings folder is actually one of the junction points that I said you might be having problems with.

I am using exactly same path you pointed. I am looking for access/permission to Application data and not Documents & Settings. I mentioned D & S to let you know that I know the process.

Hope this clarifies.

Believe me, I had similar problems coming from XP to Win7, I skipped vista and suffered a severe learning curve. Glad I was able to help
