Hi,

I want to install Windows XP mode on my Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. Detection tool wrote that I am ready to install.
I downloaded XP mode and Virtual PC from Microsoft. At first I installed XP mode, OK. But then I cant install Virtual PC. Installation is aborted with message: "This update is not capable for your computer".

Why? My CPU support VTx!

I tried uninstall XP mode and then install Virtual PC. But with the same result.

Can anybody help me?

Welcome to SF!

This is because you are installing the items in the wrong order. First you need to install Virtual PC (the big one), then install the other file.

Hope this helps,
~JK

Check your BIOS settings and make sure that the virtualization support is enabled for your processor. Just because your CPU supports it, doesn't mean that it is enabled.

Try better the Virtual Box From SUN . Is easier to use , and works better than Virtual PC from Microsoft and is Freeware . Good luck.

I think that bigger file is XP mode (400-500MB) and Virtual PC is about 10MB.
I tried both order with same result.

Yes, you will. Better stick with Virtual PC.

First, install the big file. Is it successful?

By default, you would need a license for XP to use under Sun Virtual Box. However, another member on this site publishes an application called VMLite and this product has a plug-in which allows you to convert the XP Mode version into a format that Sun VirtualBox can use. You still need Windows 7 Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate in order to be able to use and convert this XPMode version.

Another option is to use VMWare Player 3.0. You can also convert the XPMode virtual machine natively within this application. So, once you have downloaded and installed XP Mode, you can install VMWare Player 3.0, click on File and you will see an option to convert XPMode. Personally, this is the method that I choose to use. I just find it cleaner and a bit better than Sun Virtualbox and don't have to screw around with the VMLite add-ons to get the XPMode vm working.

I have installed VMware Player 2.5. I will look for new version and I will try it.
