I recently noticed that when typing in word, notepad, a url address or anything that requires me to use the keyboard for text entry the cursor tends to jump to a different position creating all kinds of word mayhem as in the example below
Wser, notepad etc
I recently noticed that when typing in word or indeed web brthe
It only happened recently and the PC doesn’t have a virus and it isn’t the touchpad on my Tosh. I did notice a few new entries in the Human Interface Devices section of Device Manager but have yet had time to identify them. Has anyone else experienced or currently experiencing this issue please?

Keyboards and mice function off interrupts. Check to see what's running that might interfere or keep the processor tied up. Laptops are almost always overburdened with unnecessary crapware. They're setup for newbies and check this or that, update this or that and monitor everything. Once you have a few months of experience with a PC it's time to get rid of the training wheels. ;)

Update:
Perhaps this has something to do with your cursor problem. Just a thought.

He he, I like the direction of your reply but I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I've been in the industry for over twenty years yet still get stumped on silly things like this from time to time. I recently reinstalled Windows 7 (x64) due to one of the many annoying issues with USB drives not been recognized properly and it's been fine until a few days ago. Better keep hunting i guess.:)

Laptops automatically get setup by Windows to reduce the burden on the battery. More often than not, USB problems are related to power options. Windows will turn off the ports to save the battery drain if the ports aren't in use. Check the Hub properties under, I think, the Power tab. Also check your advanced Power Options under the USB options for "Selective Suspend" and disable it.

Just re read my response, sorry the issue isn't present with the USB just the cursor issue. USB has been fine so far and I always check possible power issues as a first port of call so to speak, but the issues surrounding USB was wrongly detected drivers and I think the driverstore was corrupt.Extracting a fresh copy was pointless so that is why I decided to fresh install

Yes, I understand it's not part of this problem. I only mentioned the USB because you did. :)

This serves as a follow up and solution to the above query. I found that the problem was getting increasingly irritating to me so eventually decided to install Touch Freeze which did cure the problem. However I was still irritated that i had to install another piece of software to fix this issue as this wasn't necessary before.
The problem is when you get experience as I have over the past 22 years or so, one's head is often clouded by too much information and at these times thinking outside of the box can be a bad thing.
I recently reinstalled Windows and sub-sequentially forgot to install my Toshiba Synaptics pointing device driver ergo Windows used it's own generic driver. The reason I forgot is because I don't even use the touch pad let alone require extra driver software on the laptop for something I don't use. Hmmm in this instance it appears that I was wrong so I went ahead and installed the touch pad drivers and removed Touch freeze. The jumping cursor issue didn't resurface. However, I still didn't want the Synaptics drivers loading as it eats into the memory , so i disabled them in Msconfig, rebooted and all is fine still. So in conclusion it seems that it is the Microsoft generic touch pad driver that caused this issue in the first place. Hope this may be of some help to someone else who may have found themselves in a similar predicament.

Cheers
