I have a virus I believe-,what's the fastest route I can restore boot

Currently installing from an old disc Pro 64bit win 7 to a new hard drive hoping I can dl some antivirus to clear it that route.

Infected HDD is Ultimate 64bit win 7. (no repair disc or thumbdrive)
-No safe mode/ f8 option will boot
-Repair mode won't work
-Last restore point won't work

- 00007B Error on all,mentions to check for a virus (probable). Chkdsk gives no errors.


I'm dl'ing Win defender offline with a library update to a usb drive right now too, looking at avira rescue disc as well but my internet is slow at home where I am fixing it, so failing wastes a lot of time.

As I am about to have a working OS to use with the machine for the infected drive, what would you suggest I do in order to restore it's functionality...via repairing windows that way (as a secondary non os drive) or recommended virus programs/etc.. . There's some things I need to get off there, far easier done manually (bookmarks and such) and I just need to remove the virus/malware before I format it and make it a backup OS

I've not had to do this in a long time, and I've pretty much forgot how to repair it beyond what I've done.

I'm quite concern without any antivirus rescue disk, it will be difficult, just try use avast rescue disk.
You never do any backup? System image or such?

Try the AVG Rescue CD:

Go to a clean computer and download and create a rescue CD/DVD; then go to the infected computer and boot to the rescue disk. This will boot you into Linux Live, from which you can do a complete virus scan while outside of Windows. In this way, the antivirus software can more successfully find malware which is buried deep within Windows.

I suggest that you do the CD or DVD rather than the flash drive. In this way, there is no way for a virus to write itself to the rescue disk.
