Hi

I have an real strange problem. I'm using Win 7 64 bit and a Gforce 295 card. I use the new nvidia drivers 197.13_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql

Ok...

When I launch Fallout 3 and Just Cause 2 - the game wont launch. It just gives an error right away.

If I remove the 197.13 drivers, and restart windows (now windows start with default drivers) I can run the games, with no problems. If I now install 179,13 both games runs even better, than default drivers. If I restart windows, now with 197,13 drivers - both games fails again.

? I do nothing - just restart with working games.

All programs, and games work. Age Of Conan, BC2, Eve - all work. But these 2 games don't?

Big performance is the difference. Not sure what the problem is? Maybe I need to reinstall windows.

The 197.13 drivers gave me a noticeable performance decrease and i've read of other GTX series card users having issues on the EVGA forum. I don't know what card you have but if its somewhat newer try using the 196.21 drivers.

Just to add. I now have default drivers, and I have restarted windows a few times.

Just Cause 2 works on default drivers.

Fallout 3 don't work now. It worked after 1 restart after, removing Nvidia drivers 179,13 - but now I gives same error.

My suggestions... Your miles my vary

Re download the latest Nvidia drivers... if card from XFX. EVGA or BFG, etc, etc, download drivers direct from manufacturer. Save file on a Temp Folder... one that you can get to it later.

While we are at it... download also the latest Sound Drivers for your system.

  1. Go to the Temp folder and Uncompress/Unrar the file... extract it to the same temp folder. Make sure you make Sub Folders for Video & Sound Drivers... you don't want them all mixed up
  2. Uninstall both the sound and video drivers either from Control Panel or Device Manager.
  3. Restart when asked or even if you are not asked, make sure you restart to safe mode. Once inside safe mode run ccleaner to get rid of any instances of those drivers on your registry... run as many times as need it or until it finds zero instances.
  4. Restart again, windows will try to load default drivers, either let it or stop it if you can. Once its done and you're back to desktop, go back to the folder you extracted the downloaded drivers. Right click on the sound driver setup.exe and click on "Run as Administrator". Follow the instructions and Restart when done even if it doesn't ask you to do so.
  5. Once you are back in the desktop from latest restart, begin the process again, this time with the Video Driver setup.exe.
  6. Check to see whether you are using your Default/Native Resolution for your Monitor.
Get into the game and go to the Options Menu, make sure you are also using your Native Graphics resolution here... even if the game tells you to use any other resolution.

Hopefully this will help. I have no idea why this is or why it happens but, more times than not, whenever you install new games, drivers tend to get corrupted and this is the first thing I do before anything else.

If all this fails, I start panicking and I come here to ask for help !!! :o ;) :D

Did you try the 196.21's? The 197.13's have some issues for some. I don't advise using the newest drivers when there are still a lot of people with issues in your card series.

Also if you have a EVGA card there are not "special" drivers from EVGA. Their download link goes right to nvidia.com

It's working now :) And I dont know why.

I have removed the new nvidia driver, and installed the "196.21" one. I have also removed Asus gamer osd - I did both at the same time, so I'm not sure wich one of them did the trick.

But now I can play, also after a windows restart. I have to test some mere. Then I will be back, with a answer - what did the trick.

Thanks for all the help so far.
