Hello Pioneer and Welcome to Seven Forums!

Are you referring to outlook express? Windows 7 has something similar. Its call windows live mail. If you go to start, and type in windows live mail where it says search for programs and files. You should be able to set up your account.

Thanks,
Sarah

Have questions, just ask.
It is part of the Windows Live Essentials Package. I use it and it is better than Outlook. You can choose one or as many of the programs that you like.

Windows Live Addressbook Problem

I've been using WindowsLiveEmail for a month now. It is a very nice program with one very serious problem. The email contacts list keeps erasing (3 times so far). Worse, the email contact list cannot be recovered from backup.

I even paid Microsoft software jocks to advise me on this. Their solution? Use the export function to make a CSV file (which, of course, destroys all groups).

Any suggestions on another good, Windows 7 compatible program?

I would try uninstalling and installing again, I have no problem with contacts being deleted.

Richard,

Thanks for the lead, I'll look into it over the weekend when I have time to let my email system be immobilized. The problem of contacts being deleted is by no means unique to me. There are many, many posts about this on the Window Live Mail support site.

My problem, however, doesn't involve the deletions. It involves the fact that the backup software supplied with Windows 7 Professional edition cannot restore the contacts file when it is deleted. The issue is not one of not actually backing up the file. The Microsoft Jocks and I established that they were backed up properly. It is apparently a flaw in one of the programs. But Windows Live Mail doesn't have live support people -- even on a per fee basis -- so there's no one to ask about this. Frankly, I'm sorry I used this software at this point.

Many here use Thunderbird and are happy with it. I for one am totally satisfied with WLM. I do hope that you find the solution that you are looking for.

Warning: Make a backup of your mail before trying anything.
