Hi, I have just recently got a new Samsung SSD and I was installing windows 7 on to it.
once I installed windows 7 I naturally removed it from my HDD, Once I formatted my HDD I restarted my pc only to be greeted with a message telling me I had no OS.

I have changed boot order to boot from SSD and have also tried with my HDD out. Further more I have tried to reinstall it from a cd to my HDD and all I get is a black screen. I have checked both SDD and CD and both have windows 7 on them. I have changed sata ports on my MB however I can't get access to ports 1-3 as the way my tower is built.

Any help on this please? I have tried searching these forums and tried everything I can think of.

thanks

cdeeks, welcome to the windows 7 forum.

Your problem started when you left the old HDD in the machine when you installed windows 7, There is a small 100meg partition at the head of your HDD which is required for you to boot your system. I would recommend a re-install of windows on the new SSD which will then create the 100meg partition for your OS.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings.

Did you remove the HDD completely before you installed Win7 on your SSD?

Thank you richrockville, I have got windows 7 on my SSD as I have attached it to my laptop using the provided usb connector. I have it as first boot option in bios to but all I get is "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media" even if I try with install disk to.

I tried to install windows from the disk to my ssd when it was on laptop and windows says it doesn't support installation from usb connected devices.

Assuming I'm reading this right, looks like you need to change your boot order to boot from USB first if your laptop supports it.

No. I was testing my SSD with it connected via a USB connector as it has all windows files necessary for installation on it. but when it's in my desktop it's connected via sata cable

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up. I would proceed with what rich suggests in post#2.

I have tried that I have windows files from the disk on my SSD and it shows up in my bios but when I boot from it I get the error to select proper boot device. even when booting from optical drive I just get a white flashing pointer on top left of screen for 5 minutes then same error message.
