I lost admin password and couldn't fix, now both gone

I have stated. I will work on ONE and ONLY ONE computer at a time.

Post a snippet which shows only the one computer that we've been working on.

Honestly, I'm getting quite tired of repeating instriuctions.

I don't want any info except for technical info.

I only want info on one computer.

okay, what next. My snippit only show the computer that we are working on. That was quit clear. I was simply pointing out to you that if you were to look at what system I have it shows a different on then this because I updated the information as I was directed to do so for the other one and I i did not want you to be thrown off.

The snippet shows three accounts:
Guest account which is off.

Your administrator account.

Your standard user account.

This is good and the way things should be.

However, I must be 100% certain since I'm easily confused.

Is the snipped of User Accounts for the machine we are working on?

The set up is good and is the recommended approach.

There is one matter where I'm still confused.

Dod you use the Manifier? If yes, does the manifier work?

To make sure that there are no corruped system files, then
1. go to an elevated command prompt,
2. run following command: SFC /SCANNOW
3. If SFC (System File Checker) does not say "no integrity viollations found" then run SFC ./SCANNOW again. If you do not see the msg ."...no integrity violations found", then run SFC /SCANNOW again.
Let me know if SFC is still not saying "no integrity violations fournd.

6. REBOOT regardless of the msg shown.

What is an elevated command prompt? That means to run cmd.exe as an administrator, in other words:
rb: | type CMD.EXE | do NOT hit Enter | right-click on cmd.exe in the list shown | click on "Run as administrator"

You are now at an "elevated command prompt"

Oh yes,

I do not know whether you use the auto-update feature or if you run the update via control Panel | Windows Update

In either case, Microsoft released several updates yesterday.

Two of those updates may take forever.

You will think that your computer is frozen.

Your computer is not frozen.

You can use following key combo: Ctrl + Shift + ESC
That will pop-up the "Task Manager". The Applications tab will show you the currently running programs.

To avoid complications, I never, never run any other programs while the entire update procedure is running (other than the Task Manager).

Others are braver, but I do not have weird update behavior.

And now a tidbit of info:

Tuesdays are referred to as "Update Tuesdays" since updates are released by Microsoft on Tuesdays.

There have been a couple of rare exceptions. The latest exception was prompted by a malware attack that was spreading with great speed and alacrity.

The Microsoft Security Essentials database is updated immediately which can result in three or more updates to the MSE database in one day.

I, manually, update MSE daily, but others let MSE automatically update and on a weekly basis.

Oh yes, if they are not running behind, then MS releases the updates at 09:00 Pacific Coast Time on Tuesdays.

More security related items:
1. Did you change your admin account password? If no, then change immediately.

2. Did you change your standard user account password? If no, then change immediately.

3. Did you change your LastPass master password? If no, then change immediately.

4. Since there was a possible compromise of your LastPass, then check all banking accounts for unusual activity. I'd suggest changing passwords on those accounts which you don't want to be breached.

Wait, they change immediately. I just finished doing a whole bunch of Microsoft updates. If all my passwords change then how will I know what they are? I am gong to run the scan right now. But I am telling you. I can not go to run and type cmd.exe. The only way I can get there is if I open an old cmd window if I search for it and then go into that one and get it to the Windows/System32. There is more then one magnify.exe that was changed. That was done during the password reset process that I used. It is this one.View attachment recover admin password.docx I highlighted the steps that I missed. I had that and another copied and when I printed this page fell below my printer desk. So, I messed up and all accounts are locked. I only have one password reset and that is mine. I have no idea what happened to the rest of my USB stick. Moving twice.

I will go do what you said to do but I am afraid to turn my computer off now as what happens if it resets my password???


Oh, and remember, I told you, no matter what I use to sign into my computer, what password. Only the right one gets me in but I always get a pop-up that says you have logged in as ______ a very old user name...

OH, and I have no backup. No image backup no nothing. My External Western Digital Hard Drive will not show up. Any clues what to do. It's not a matter of just assigning a new drive letter or anything like that because at one point I did have a problem where I couldn't read or write to it just see it. Now it does not show at all anywhere!!!

I changed all passwords and all banking accounts etc... thanks

I know that you don't want to hear about other computers but on both of mine since these updates ran I am getting systems errors about being low on memory and not being able to run programs. I uninstalled a ton of things on this computer and there is plenty left. What is the deal. In fact the majority of the stuff on this computer is Microsoft's updates. Maybe they just need to buy me and everyone else new hard drives or build a better operation system. I know you are a big fan of theirs but I am going through all of this stuff nice from what I can see is because of them!

Suddenly it show not just my C drive in My Computer but on my network it shows another exactly the same as my network. Also my file systems are all messed up I have documents in 5 different places and Pictures and everything is everywhere since the whole "unlock" your password!

Your present problems and your new problems are such that I now have only one recommendation for you:

Backup all data dear to your heart and make a clean install.

This is my final recommendation.

How you backup your data is your problem.

Please do not delete this thread. I may need it for help. If you care, read about this hotfix. It states right on Microsofts page that it causes memory leaks and BSOD. KB981889. The other Hotfix they downloaded that installed WOW is what caused me to loose all of my SQL server files. So what ever you think, It is not me that has caused these problems. The only people who have logged onto this system has been microsoft and the one tech. The person who logged into my Lasspass was an employee. I called him. He did it from his computer because he was doing research work for me. I don't keep bank passwords and things like that in there.

Thanks for dropping me with so many unanswered questions and the fear of shutting down my computer due to what Microsoft just downloaded. Sleep well.

Working with Microsoft

Well, I had a VP with Microsoft on the phone with me today. In a half hour he un bricked my hard drive. Gave me the steps to do it on my desktop computer and I am almost completely back to normal. Maybe I'll share the tricks with you. Sure fixed a lot of stuff quickly. No scans involved. No take ownership and no three weeks of never getting a solid answer from you. And he didn't ask for snippits! He just did it and he's calling me back tomorrow to finish.
