I lost the boot capability on my XP machine.

I installed a UNIX variant [can't remember which] on my XP machine using a bootable thumbdrive, and installed a boot manager.

I resized the XP before installing UNIX/BM. When I decided to not go that rout, I deleted the new partitions, and put XP back to all of the drive, forgetting about the boot files...

How do I make the computer bootable without doing a recovery, as it's a netbook and I don't want to put together an external optical drive to fix it...

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install
Done properly all your data and apps will be there...1 mistake and all is gone but you'll have a fresh XP install.
So i suggest reading it thru and printing a reference copy before starting.

That would require an optical drive. I don't have one on it, but I do have a thumb drive that will boot the computer...

Optical drives are dirt cheap right now...
You would need to setup the thumb drive to be bootable and then clone the XP image to it...i've never experimented with this method.
Is the Recovery Console installed on this PC ? ?
