I may have invented something cool!!!

Jeez sorry to disappoint all you guys but I thought it was cool. Sorry I haven't been doing this for years and don't already know every trick in the book.

Huludrock -- Everybody thinks to have invented something at one time or the other. Here is what I invented this week. I am quite impressed with it. What do you think?
http://www.sevenforums.com/chillout-room/250823-double-your-internet-speed.html

Here's an upgrade of something I "invented" when I was an auto mechanic. When more and more cars changed to front wheel drive, a lot of them you had to use a wheel puller to get the rotor off(the disk of "disk brakes") to then mount it on the lathe to turn it true. I came up with the idea of a lathe that could be mounted on the car. When set up the car engine would be started, put in gear, and the wheel turning would drive the lathe mechanism. Of course I didn't submit the idea anywhere. But I told a few people about it over the years. Then one day visiting another mechanic in another garage they were demonstrating the prototype. It worked just as I described.

I knew the idea of running the car in gear up on the lift would not go over well with customers as gas prices increased. As you can see in the video, now they set up a drive shaft to turn the wheel on the car rather than running the car motor.

I have use one like it many of times. It's required by many auto manufactures for warranty work. I never did like using it. It took to long and didn't pay. (Flat Rate)
You could of made a ton of money with a patent.

Heh heh. I just told a few people about the idea. I didn't make any sketches or anything like that. I just knew those rotors were a pita to pull off. I have to admit front wheel drive handles a lot better on ice and snow. But I enjoyed working on the old rear wheel drive cars. Like the GM ball joint front end cars, doing front end alignments with the shims. Often you could adjust caster and camber in one shot. Then just straighten the wheel and set the toe. Those MacPherson strut front ends the caster and camber are distinct adjustments. Only way to get lucky is if the setting shows it's already on preferred spec. No fun. :)

Plus a lot of people got sold the entire strut when all they needed were shock cartridges. It's difficult to rip someone off like that when there's only a shock inside the ball joint A-frame. But that strut thing with a spring around it looks like a big deal to the rube. Gives mechanics a bad name when $350 beatings are handed out when the job should be $100 in most cases.

But I wax nostalgic. :)

Heh. I remember the first time this dude pulled in for some work on a Subaru with the spare tire in the engine compartment. I laughed in the guy's face. I just never saw that before. Couldn't help it. :)

You didn't mark the thread "solved" so the diagnosis continued. But I request unanimous consent to revise and extend my remarks. I don't know why I would want to do so. But those legislative types seem to insist on it. :)
