I need a new partition in my ssd !

Hi,

My ssd only have an hiden partition of about 1,5 GB or so freeand the main C partition! The ssd have 407 GB free space but I cannot make a partition larger that about 4 GB!! I would like to have a 50 GB partition to store my Macrium full system image in it! Of course I have images stored in external hdds too! My questions:

1- is there any safe way to make that partition?
2- if yes, is possible to make it without any software instalation?
3- since the ssd will have an extra partition, if I need to restore will the images I made before be usable or only the images made after the partition will be usable in this new partition configuration?

The best partition tool is Partition Wizard boot disk, the bottom link on this page:

I assume you are trying to use Windows Disk Management, which is not as useful as Partition Wizard.

The Partition Wizard doesn't install onto your hard drive--it's contained on the boot disk.

Regarding your last question, if you are using Macrium, I think the previously made images will still restore if the remaining C partition is large enough to receive the image. Perhaps others will have more comments about that. I'm not sure what Windows Backup and Restore would do in that situation.

If your C partition has more than roughly 100 GB occupied, any image you make of it will approach 50 GB in size and may not fit on this new 50 GB partition you intend to make. I'm not too sure I would bother with this strategy anyway because it does not protect you in case the entire SSD fails. I realize you have other copies of the images on some other separate drive, but the idea of storing images on another partition on the same drive just doesn't add much to a backup strategy.

Yes I know, but just in case of a virus strike or something like that! Of course in a major disk faillure this is not the strategie to follow!
