I have A Toshiba satellite laptop with windows 7 home premium edition already built into the computer. I had Wmp 12 already installed into the computer, but at first I didn’t like wmp12 and wanted wmp11. So I looked online and found a wmp11 for windows 7 installer and I installed wmp11 using these instructions:

1. Download Windows Media Player 11 Installer for Windows 7

2. Now Type services.msc on windows 7 search bar

3. Stop Windows Media Player Network
Sharing Service.

4. Take Ownership of following files:
all files in “Program Files\Windows Media Player\” folder
all files starting with “wmp” in System32 folder
wmploc.dll.mui in “Sytem32\en-us\” folder

5. Now Run Windows Media Player 11 Installer

6. Now type Regedit on Start Menu Search bar

7. Delete following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Setup\Installed Versions

8. Reboot your Windows 7

But then I had a change of heart and wanted wmp12 back decided to uninstall wmp11 from the control panel and reinstall wmp12. But I didn’t know until just recently that there was "turn program feature on or off" where I could’ve just go there to turn off wmp12 before installing wmp11. Anyway after I uninstalled wmp 11, I went to the turn program feature on or off, to see if wmp 12 could reinstall, but every time I turn the media player and media center back on, there a message saying that 'An unexpected error has occur, Not all of the features were successfully installed" and then I restarted the computer and it would say configure windows don’t turn off computer message, and every time t doses that, it would say something like "configure Changes failed, reverting the configuration" or something like that that and show the login page . After I login wmp and wmc would show on the desktop. But when tried it again I then chose the restart later and then wmp12 would show up on my computer but than when I restart the computer again it does the same thing and wmp12 is not on there again. So, I went to the registry editor to see I could remove, recover, fix, or replace some of the media player 12 files. But that didn’t help either. So what I'm asking is this:
1. Is there any way to reinstall wmp12 that was previously pre-installed by windows without using system reinstall feature or advanced recovery methods?

2. Can I fix, restore, or reset the configuration problems of wmp12?

3. Is any way to restore, recover, or reinstall the entire wmp12 program feature and program capabilities with and/or without using advanced recovery or restore methods?
Is there anything you can think of to help with this situation?
P.S. I also looked at the registry file to see what about it there, then went to turn off or turn on program feature again and it still didn’t work.

As the windows media player is included in the removable programs in the "turn windows features on & off" dialog, (part of Media Features), you could try unchecking this option, rebooting and then checking the option again - this may restore the program but would depend on how much damage the hack you performed has done.

Anyway the dialog is available from the add and remove programs entry in the control panel

Would the media player 12 be able to reinstall if I deleted its registry folder? cuss thats what i just did?

P.S. When i do the system restore, after i restored it to the earliest restore point (thats at the bottom of the restore point listings) when i restore it again will it show more earlier restore points going back from the restore point i currently have it on?

Try this. I dont know whether it'll work.

Uninstall wmp11 (you have already), delete the WMP folder in Program Files, delete the registry key you mentioned in your post, then reboot.

Now, check wmp amd wmc boxes in "Turn windows features on/off" (turn them on), reboot.

Now see whether wmp12 works.

Maybe you can also try CCleaner to wipe off the remaining wmp11 reg entries as well as folders/ files after uninstalling it.

I fixed the problem of my wmp12 situation, What i did was first,
At first i tried the default file association thing and that didn't work, so first i went to he control panel and turned off the media features on the programs and features
and then i downloaded the CCleaner from the link below:

I went to CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download to get CCleaner for my computer.
then I went the ccleaner that installed and analyzed and cleaner the system, the multimedia programs, advanced system options, windows explorer, and some of the ther things that nedded cleaning. then I went to the registry on the cleaner and checked for any issues and cleaned those up to. then i restarted my computer. then i went to program files and deleted the windows media player program folder. I also made sure i deleted all of the files that had anything to do with windows media player 11 on it and dleleted those from my computer.
then, i went to the registry editor andwent to find and typed the following: wmp, wmp11, wmploc, wmpband, and any other .egs that had wmp and searched throughout the entire registry and deleted and/or modifyed all of the .reg files with wmp on them. then after double checking to make sure i deleted anything to with wmp11, i then went to the control panel and turned the media features back on on the programs and features section o the control panel and then rebooted my computer.
