I need help

I recently put Windows 7 on my desktop which was running 32 bit XP, today I tried to put it on my laptop running 32 bit Vista premium. I got a message telling me that the product was not compatible with my pc.

My question is when I put 7 on my desktop it gave me the option as to what I wanted, 32 bit or 64 bit now I cannot get the setup to even run on my laptop, any suggestions, thank you

Are you using the very same installation disc on the laptop that you successfully used on the desktop?

Do you know for a fact that your laptop hardware is compatible with Windows 7?

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
Yes I am using the same disc, and I ran the windows 7 adviser prior to attempting to install windows 7. The problem is I cannot get setup to run to access the choice of 32 bit installation, the exact message I get when I try to install is.

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you`re running. Check your
computer`s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the
program and then contact the software publisher."

I did not get this message when I installed it on my desktop which was running XP service pack 3.

I've never seen both 32 bit and 64 bit on the same disc :confused:

Let's start at basics. Are you using an upgrade disk, installing from scratch? How did you perform the install? Do you have a separate key for the new install?

What is the brand/model of the laptop? What install medium are you using?

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
It's definitely possible to have both the 32-bit version and 64-bit version on the same disc, but I haven't seen that in a long time. Then again, I mostly use Enterprise media these days, too.
