I bought 2 Win7 32/64 Marked "Windows 7 Professional and marked "intended for distribution with a refurbished PC -includes Service pack1" No other disks in Package. I was running xp pro.

I ran the test foe Win7 comparability and results were good. I wanted to install on C: drive which was wiped clean- no data or partitions. C: drive is a SSD 120 Gig.
I boot from the DVD and the installation of Win 7 goes well until after I select the custom installation.
After that the display says " I cant load Win 7 on that drive"

Thanks for any help . I have wasted a lot of time on this.

It might need drivers dending on what mode your motherboard is in. IDE mode, or AHCI mode, or RAID mode. Knowing what motherboard you have and in what mode it is set in the BIOS would help.

Enter BIOS setup to see if it's an EFI BIOS, with UEFI DVD as a boot choice, Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module. These indicate a EFI BIOS which requires special steps to install: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums or Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

If not then wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command from the installer Command Line accessing DISKPART At PC Startup .

If that fails define an Active partition to see if that resolves it, using Step 2.2 from SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If none of these help, then post back the exact error message and step at which it fails from Clean Install Windows 7

Im sure we are getting somewhere now. I may have trobble finding this i the bios.

Thanks gregrocker! Thanks John

If you find no reference to UEFI BIOS on any tab in the BIOS then it's unlikely it's UEFI and you can move on to the next steps.

If in question post back your mobo model.

Thanks Gregrocker.
While I was in never never land I sumhow got the settings right and installed w& wwwwwithout any problems.
Your diagnosis of my problem was correct and solved my problem. My motherboard is an ASus M5A97 R.2.0.
I am not sure if I finished using the correct settings as I had little info on what each settings meant. If you had time
to check and advise I would be extremely grateful. Thanks again. Hoppy

If you want advice on the BIOS settings either list the ones in question or post back camera snaps of the relevant menus showing the settings choices.

If you'd like advice on the current OS configuration post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums.

If you have any performance issues, list them for us in detail.

You can go over your install to assure it's integrity using Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 especially establishing a Clean Boot, combing the logs to resolve repeat errors, utilizing System Resources to check for problems and solutions, and maintain a perfect install.
