I need to hack my keyboard.

I have a new Lenovo E560 ThinkPad. To my near disbelief, the thing has no light for either the cap lock or the number pad lock. There are a million complaints about it online. It's real. Instead, the locks cause a little symbol to appear onscreen when turned on or off. The problem is that one forgets whether the things are on or off, or they get hit accidentally and one misses the little icon appearing for three seconds. It is an astonishing act of boneheadism.

Is it possible to hack the caps lock OFF permanently (or until further notice) and the number lock ON, likewise? If necessary, I could live with both of them OFF.

I know that Logitech and MS keyboards have a keyboard control panel and you can actually turn the Caps Lock key off.

I don't know if a Thinkpad would have that, but you might want to check in all of the bloatware that laptop manufacturers put into a laptop. There may be a keyboard configuration utility in all of that stuff.

Long shot but you could also check Control Panel > Keyboard to see if Lenovo included any user settings. You should see a tab labeled Hardware on first screen. Double click your keyboard or click Properties. Second screen click on Change Settings. If Lenovo did its job, third screen might have additional user controlled keyboard settings. Or not.

Go to the right side of the taskbar.

Most of the icons for certain features are available, if unable to see, just click the up arrow.

From there, you could be able to see the keyboard icon, as this is where you can make the setting.

For example, my mouse cannot use windows generic driver, so had to install the program.
As the program do include other options and settings.


Do check on your Lenovo E560 ThinkPad which the icons should be available.
