I ran out of room!

i currently just used up all the room on my 750Gb internal Hard drive

AND

i moved everything to my 1Tb External

i moved the user folder over to the Tb and went back to the internal hard drive and individually deleted all the files in there

is that a smart idea? im not sure now bc if the Tb gets messed up im screwed

Holy c*** 750gb?....Have you considered a Windows Home Server with shared files and multiple drives (with duplication on) to avoid loosing your data. Got an old pc laying around (WHS costs less than $100 for software). You my friend are a prime candidate for a Windows Home Server. Check it out here:

How long did it took you to transfer all the data to your 1TB?

If I understand you correctly, I don't see why it would be a smart idea.

I can understand why you would COPY data to your external drive, but why would you MOVE stuff there, leaving you with only a single copy??

You have emptied your internal drive. What if your external drive now fails? How would you recover your data with no backup?

If you got the cash spare I'd invest in a redundant NAS for all your important files. I use a Buffalo Terastation which has 4x 250GB drives in a RAID5 configuration. RAID5 leaves me with just shy of 700GB of usable space.

Since disks are so cheap these days it's also an option to add redundancy to your PC. Some PC's have a built in RAID controller or you could buy a RAID controller and attach two drives in a mirrored configuration or 3 or more drives in a RAID5 configuration.
