Just a general comment really

Have just done a fresh install of Windows 7 pro 64 bit on a friends Laptop. Apart from the 200+ updates (taking quite some time) all went well.

I had forgotten just how good 7 was (I'm on 10 pro) - so much so I am tempted to revert back to 7 on some of my machines!

The big frustration with 10 is the length of time for updates to download and install - 7 is so much more reliable and straightforward and SO quick by comparison.

I expect that some '7' users have stayed with this OS for the same reasons.

I like Windows 7; but I like Linux Mint even more.

Other Info
I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
I disabled the update service some months ago because I believe that after 8 years and hundreds of updates & corrections of bad updates, Microsoft can't/won't improve the W7. Also believe that their monthly rollups, appearing as both a required and optional update, is nothing more than MS collecting user data, and whatever is gleaned from it is applied to Windows 10.

Over time I succeeded to repair all errors that appeared in the Event Viewer, and it has been consistently clean for the past six months. The benefit of this is that I am familiar with many Event IDs, and know what is serious, important or irrelevant. It also convinced me that all the required corrections have been applied by now. But admittedly, I activate the update service every 60 days or so, just to monitor what is offered in the updates.

I am dreading the thought of being forced to switch to Windows 10 because of streamlining (to W10) of the ~50 installed apps I rely on.
