I think I'm safe

I don't really use my computer for excessive internet browsing.

I'm a virtual machine expert and I use Windows XP and Windows 98 virtual machines to run older games and software.

The only time I use my chrome browser is to download said games and software.

I never had any viruses take over the computer and I think it's because of the limited sites I use.

I think I'll be safe when support ends.

Anyone agrees?

First and foremost, define "safe".

Support is absolutely irrelevant to users, computers will still work the same as before.

"Safe" in a way that I won't really have to worry about background hijacks (even after closing the browser) or annoying upgrade popups (Those usually come with updates, But my Windows Update bricks the computer so I don't even bother).

Also, One last thing.

I sometimes connected my Windows XP virtual machine to the internet for one time downloads.

Again, I used the internet on that for limited use, So I didn't have any problems.

Hi Melflormelissa,

Welcome to SevenForums!

I sometimes connected my Windows XP virtual machine to the internet for one time downloads.

If you are not happy with connecting to the Internet on that computer, then why don't you use another computer to download the .exe file [program] etc to a USB. You can then scan it with Virus Vault for example and then install it on the Windows XP VM.

Just a thought!

Huh, Maybe I'll do something like that. Unfortunately, I don't really have the chance of using an USB.

I'm 14 and I plan on using the computer until I get my own merits of buying a new laptop.

The only other times I use the web are for downloading game emulators and games for them, Using guides to help me on my playthroughs and sometimes WhatsApp Web.

The computer was built around 2013 by my brother. Last year he built a new one for him.

I don't want to upgrade my computer to Windows 10 because it might not handle any future updates. I don't want to upgrade my hardware as well. It's fine as it is.

Also, Another quick note.

Around 2016 and the beginning of 2017, I used my mother's laptop. It originally came with Windows 8 and it stayed that way until February 2017. Even though support for Windows 8 ended in early 2016, I still used it with no problems at all.

One day, The C drive got corrupted (but it was my fault, not the computer) and we took it to a repair shop.

They did not only fix the thing, But also upgraded it to Windows 10 Home (I think Pro is better).

I download games from Adventure Legends (I used to download from The ISO Zone before they shut down) and that's basically the only website I use to download pc games.

I download emulator games through Vimm's Lair.

Both sites have no viruses in their files and even Adventure Legends' external websites for downloading (4shared and Mega) don't seem to have viruses either.

I haven't heard of a major attack and I think when it does, I'm usually off the websites anyway.

Also, Whenever I need to do online stuff that isn't downloading software, I use my phone, My mom's laptop (in rare cases, mind you) or my brother's PC.

The installing software part is only on the Win7 PC.
