I think my HDD is giving me blue screens, how can I be sure?

Hello,

Ok for a long time now I have been getting blue screens, at first I thought it was my SSD and I even got that RMA'd but I'm still getting BSOD.

The dumps are as follows (see attached).

I tried to defragment the HDD and twice I got a BSOD within about 5 minutes of the process.

Is there anyway I can find out where the corrupted area on the HDD is, and would it be possible to partition that area and not use it?

Hello Chopp mate for one thing you never defrag a SSD nor chkdsk it. I'll have a look at the OCZ site and see what I can find.

The other dive personally I don't like large ones for this very reason you will need to run a tester over it try these the Partition Wizard will check the surface as opposed to the sector stuff.

No mate they are two separate programs and if you do the surface first the generic which might take a fair while - over night.

If you have a Seagate hard disk, you should do a full erase with Seagate Seatools for DOS. Seatools for DOS full erase will check every sector, write a zero and if it identifies any bad sectors, it will assign spare sectors, if available, to replace the bad sectors. I've had a Seagate hard disk pass both the Seatools short and long tests, but fail a full erase. So, the full erase is the ultimate test for Seagate drives.

Of course you will need to reload your os, programs and data after the full erase.

Another program to view the hard disk SMART information in detail is GSmartControl. This program can run SMART tests.

GSmartControl as well as Seagate Seatools for DOS are free downloads.

As well as tjg suggestion you can wipe the drive with Partition Wizard or use this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html this or rather both take a long time to do and overnight is good but back up any data you want if you can.

I would send shot of the Partition Wizard wipe but my attachment is not working so open PW > click on the end of the drive > select wipe drive > you will see a jobs waiting message > go to Apply at the top and click on it and anything to ok it afterwards. Just be careful you select the right drive . CCleaner has a similar function too.

Oh I meant to mention TJG he is trying to fix the spinner mate the OS is on the SSD

Ok an update: Last night the Partition Wizard tool finished it's surface scan with on errors, but there was no pending item so I couldn't get to step 3.

I ran the spyware scans and it only came up with cookies.

It blue screened a few more times last night, I'll upload the dumps of those in this post...

I'm currently doing a scan via Properties > Tools > Error check, after dismounting the drive, unfortunately I don't have time to do it out of Windows because I have work I need to doing.

I have taken all my memory sticks out one after the other and I got a blue screen even with each out, so I'm sure it's not my memory.
