Solved I, too, cannot get 1680x1050 resolution
Selected Specs
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2253LW (21.6") with DVI connection
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 210
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
My friend just helped me build a new tower, and my monitor's default setting of 1680x1050 is simply unavailable to me, no matter what I do or where I look. Hoping to get it, I've tried several things suggested in here and in other forums:
-the "screen resolution" option from right-clicking on the desktop (obviously)
-creating a "custom" 1680x1050 resolution from the NVIDIA Control Panel (but apparently my monitor's
default resolution is "not supported by [my] display")
-installing a Vista NVIDIA driver
-creating a custom driver with PowerStrip
à la bird391 at tomshardware.com
-probably some other stuff that I've forgotten because it's 1:30 a.m.
Nothing will do the trick. Please do help, intrepid tech-wizards of Sevenforums! I can't stand to see things all stretched out like this!

Welcome aboard
Have you tried this one ?
NVIDIA DRIVERS 196.21 WHQL
Alternatively, it may be obtained from
NVIDIA GeForce 210 Video Card Driver Download too, you will need the fourth one listed there .
Hi Arc, I'm afraid doing that gave me a much bigger problem: my monitor now receives no signal, almost from startup. The signal cut out halfway through installing the driver you suggested (I didn't uninstall the old one) and now when I start my tower, I get the Windows loading screen, but before it gets to the welcome screen the signal goes.
EDIT: I uninstalled that driver in Safe Mode, so that's a step in the right direction. The resolution is still messed though.

warningsign,
Do us a favor and fluff out those system specs and associate the specs with each and every post your send by following this procedure:
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar)
|
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)
To gather info, use
SIW or
Speccy or
System Info
Add the word
laptop or
desktop or
netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook .
Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc
Scroll down and click on the
SAVE CHANGES button.

This will put you back to the old driver.
The rollback option is greyed out, and I've tried a bunch of different drivers and versions. I've updated my system specs in my profile.

Why on Earth would the NVIDIA Control Panel tell me that my monitor's native resolution is "not supported by [my] display"?

Is your monitor identified correctly in Device Manage, or is it identified as Generic PNP Monitor? Sometimes this can be corrected by unplugging the power and video cables from the monitor, and the tower, and letting them sit for 1/2 an hour. Plug in the cables to the monitor, then the tower, and power the tower on. See if the monitors are correctly detected now. See if that allows you to set correct resolution. If not, have a look at this tutorial.

It's been identified as SyncMaster 2253BW/2253LW,SyncMaster Magic CX2253BW(Analog) (its current designation), SyncMaster 2253BW/2253LW,SyncMaster Magic CX2253BW(Digital), Generic PNP Monitor, and Non-Generic PNP Monitor.
I've now also noticed a new problem: the monitor receives no signal after I awaken the computer from sleep mode. I can hear all the regular Windows sounds, but can't see anything and have to do a manual shutdown.
