I do sit and think. (see profile)
I haven't yet figured out how to fill in all the specs, but I will. ( I will make a concentrated effort to fill in the correct details)
I don't play computer games. Merely, I don't want to wait, even a millisecond for a page to open..a program to load. An Antivirus program to run at 90 mb sec., when it could run at 3gig per sec.
You say.." is it necessary ? " Of course not.
"Incorporate tomorrows needs ..." There is no one time to buy technology, as, by the time it is delivered, it is already out of date.
You want a page to open fast? That's more than likely an internet speed issue. You're Australian, I know how shit our internet is over here.

As for anti-virus, why the need for a fast scan? There's automated options for it to do that stuff while your computer is idle, or you can let it run while you sleep, whatever.

As far as I'm concerned, there's really no need for such a high-end unless you need it for a job like a film editor or graphics engineer.

I suppose it's like talking to a farmer.
Leanin' on a fence, he'll give you the answer. But talk real slow.

For a real performance boost get yourself a solid state drive first and an i7 CPU second - other than that, what you have is pretty good.

i would say SDD
and VGA because cpu is not that bad but vga is low mid...

ofcourse it all depends what for pc is used.
if games then vga for sure.

Better Computer

I think core i7 is the best tell now but it would be better to purchase a computer according to your requirements because it will cost you less.
If you need a gaming PC then you need to have a pc according to the game specifications like Graphic card, RAM, processor.
You can also upgrade your computer according to your requirements.

Best boost you can get is an SSD, a processor upgrade won't do much, it's an i5 for crying out loud.
Also, I think one of the things slowing you down may be start-up programs. Those things will take you down hard and eat up memory and processes when you aren't using them..

Hey, I'm still rockin Core 2 duo and 4GB ram with a standard HDD. My computer still boots, runs, and shuts down faster than any of my other friend's computers. I have never had a moment where "I need more processing power". It's all about how well you maintain your setup. Butttt, if you really wanted more raw performance, everyone else has the right/same idea: just get more RAM and a Solid State drive.
