Solved I want to get GWX.

I want to get windows 10 as the proposed free upgrade. I used to be a part of the insider program, but for some reasons I am quitting out of it. Now I have installed windows 7 back and I want to get the GWX app, but I am not having it.

What I have already done is .....

I have installed windows 7 and activated it.

I updated windows, got all of them, Impotent, Recommended and Optional.

​

The GWX update is also installed there.

​

Still I am not getting the GWX app.

​

I have restarted my computer for a number of times before posting here.

If anybody kindly help me to get it, I will be grateful.

Check If GWX.exe Is Running

Open Task Manager and in the Processes tab, look for a process called GWX.exe which should be running. If it isn’t, go to C:\Windows\System32\GWX and run the GWX.exe file.

Thanks a great lot for the help.

No, GWX.exe is not running in the process tab of the task manager.
Then I went to C:\Windows\System32\GWX and run GWX.exe by double clicking on it. Nothing happened. Then I run it as administrator. Still nothing happened.

Then I ran all the five .exe files in C:\Windows\System32\GWX .... GWX, GWXConfigManager, GWXDetector, GWXUX and GWXUXWorker. Now GWXUX.exe is running as a process, but not GWX.exe.

What went wrong there?

There are two updates you will need. See How to display the Windows 10 upgrade icon if it is not visible - gHacks Tech News for its number and how to make the icon visible.

I personally will be skipping WX.

If all else fails try this, open Notepad and paste the following;

Save this file with the name Windows10Upgrade.cmd. You can name the file anything but the extension should be CMD. Next, run this file as an administrator. It may take some time, up to ten minutes before you see the app

I reserved it on one of my older machines with this tool, which had all updates.

Uninstalled KB3035583, got afresh it form this link.

The content of the C:\Windows\System32\GWX folder is a little different now. But nothing happened as previous.

Running the script now. Let us see how it goes.

For those having issues with it automatically upgrading

You can download the creation tool and force the upgrade.
Windows 10

Run it and you can do a in place upgrade or, save to a USB and upgrade from there.
I'd do the USB so you can upgrade all your PCs that way if you want, plus its just easier to have the Windows 10 image handy.

That's what I had to do for some reason. But worked out fine,
