I want to use win7 "forever" and never upgrade to win10

Win 10 can't be the last one. MS makes its best income by brainwashing everyone to buy a new OS every few years.
Actually, MS can and will. MS has abandoned the idea a new OS every so many years and is making continuous changes to Win 10. In fact, I'm amazed they even bothered to number it. They will still make their money because a Win 10 license is only for ten years, then one will have to shell out their shekels to renew it.
I suspect that Windows will be turned into an Azure-based subscription OS. :(

Yes it can. I've installed it on my 8.1 VM.

Yeah, it's a fallacy about how you have to have the so-called latest and "greatest" OS to prevent malware and "hacking." LMAO! What a joke. I think they spread this rumor out to the masses to get everyone to update. Truth be told, you can update and update to your little heart's content and you're still gonna get malware or a possible hacker on your machine. After all, this isn't Linux, it's the most targeted OS in the world. And Linux copy cat Admin crap and UAC won't prevent any of it, but just create issues. Malware WILL get by especially if it's polymorphic. It just boils down to doing what everyone should be doing from the get go: don't browse the net like a moron. At least scan all downloads at Virus Total and of course for the love of God don't trust TPB crap. And if you have an overwhelming desire to surf for porn, then be prepared to get online STDs. The more popular sites might be safe, but not the other crap. These two points are chiefly where people pick up malware from in the first place.

Updates in of themselves are practically viruses. I have read forum post after forum post on computer forums all over the Internet of updates hosing their computers. I don't even use updates, and I've never gotten malware. Even so, I scan my computer every once in a while with a plethora of tools. Some most never even heard of or use, like Streamarmor. To make this even funnier, I have a netbook running XP that's connected to an external monitor, mouse and mini keyboard as the kitchen kiosk. It's primary use is a small FTP server who's storage is a SD card. It runs PhoneTray and a TeamSpeak server. This little beast has been on 24/7 connected to the Internet for the last four years and no malware or hacking attempts. Albeit, I have Peerblock on it that uses my own custom block lists blocking many countries and hosting providers like Azure, Amazon, Google, Digital Ocean, etc. Over 600 million IPs in total. I don't forward the ports necessary for TeamSpeak unless I use it. I keep port forwarding on a use case scenario.

I said updates are malware in of themselves? Check these articles out:

As many users have said that Windows 7 support will end in 2020,but you can use it even after EOL.All you need is a bit of knowledge and a common sense.Use it as far as you think you're doing the right job protecting yourself and as far as Windows 7 is compatible with your software.
Heck even my dad uses Windows XP every day on the internet ,no problems so far.

We have plenty time until 2020; a lot of stuff can and will happen!

Me too, and then I'll just install a good Linux OS! Even better...I'll get the free Libre Office, which works well enough for me as I only use doc and docx for the most part.

Well, also I'm new here in these forums, but want to say, I have dualbooted Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. Also I want to stay in Windows 7 and 8.1 forever. And I hate Windows 10 RTM+ and Linux (no offence) so much. I never liked Linux, I prefer Windows. Also Windows 10 RTM+ worked like a pure garbage, it worked slow and many bugs. Windows 8.1, Windows 10 TP Build 10074 (this is a beta build and it's expired, please don't judge me, I tested it on my real computer with BIOS date with 01/01/2015 and I used Google Chrome as today calendar using RunAsDate and I didn't change the BIOS date and I'm stuck with January 1, 2015 date, so it works faster and better than Windows 10 RTM+) and Windows 7 are stable OSes. I love Windows 7, 8.1, 10 betas (better than RTM). So I don't care about 2020 EOS and I never upgrade all my dualbooted OSes to Windows 10 and having 2 Windows 10 instead of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. I never liked Linux and Windows 10 RTM+ IMO. I prefer to stay with Windows 7 and 8.1. In the Windows 7 EOS date, I still stay in Windows 7 and never change it. Windows 10 10074 (prerelease build) worked great until the RTM+ version of Windows 10 ruined it.

My current machine is just under one years old. HP has abandoned both Windows 7 and 8.1 they only have drivers for Windows 10. I had to grab the drivers from the original manufacturers. It worked and my machine is fully functional but this will not work 3/4 years from now. I'm already planning to get a new machine, there's still hope I might be able to get my hands on drivers now so that I can continue using 7/8.1 for another decade. I'm young I still have lot's of computing life left.

HP did pretty much the same when Win 7 came out. They refused to make Win 7 drivers for their older hardware. It's a major reason I will not buy anything from HP (poor tech help is another one along with chipping toner cartridges with an expiration date).

What do you recommend I should buy next ? Two things I want are 1- Vendor that support the drivers for older versions of windows and updates them accordingly, 2- Durability. I live far away from the city in wilderness, no help around here.

I don't have any experience with the vendors. Ever since I started using computers in 2012, I've only purchased HP, all three machines.

I'm trying to find out for certain if I can keep win7 as my OS from now on and not have to worry about Microsoft forcing an upgrade to win10. My reasons for not moving to win10 are irrelevant to the question.

I don't care. I'm going to keep on using Win-7 Ultimate, EOL be damned! I see no reason to "upgrade" (and I use that word advisedly) to Win-10. I'm running Win-7 on a Dell Optiplex 32 bit system that originally had XP on it when I got it in 2016. XP ran just fine, and so did the Ignition Casino Poker client, though it did warn about "missing functionality" I noticed no missing functionality and the client ran just fine so far as I could tell.

I kept on using it until this past November when the latest client wouldn't work. So I got a Win-7 DVD and installed that instead. No problems. How long was XP EOL by then? (Extended support ended 2014) That's a good long while indeed.

atter how I word the question on google all of the answers are biased toward what I need to do to upgrade to win10. I figured someone here might have some insight.

I'd appreciate any feedback...

Don't worry about it. Once support ends, just use some common sense and don't be clicking on any links sent via e-mail from sites you don't know. Don't be opening any attached files either unless you know what they are and who sent them. Stay the hell off porn sites unless you want your computer to be infected with virtual STDs. (These sites are notorious for this, and since I'm a Linux user, the last time I landed on one such site, the syslog showed many attempts to install malware -- all of it Windows executables.) Use good third party anti-virus (I use Avast) common sense, and you'll be OK. Remember: back-up, back-up, back-up without fail.

I haven't bought any system since 2002. That's one good thing about Win-7 EOL: I will be gifted lots of systems. That's how I got my current Linux rig (an H/P 64 bit AMD system) back in 2012. XP EOL, and they were just going to throw it away. I installed Slackware on it (The Slackware Linux Project) I use it every day, and it's still up and running. That's seven years now since they "thought" it was "obsolete" :roflmao:

Microsoft's Marketing Chief Terms Windows-7 Unsafe

Yeah, now there's an objective, unbiased PoV if ever I saw one. :sarc:

According to a recent article published on Forbes, the statement is nothing but a new tactic to convince Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft wants its latest operating system to be installed on at least one billion devices within the first few years of its release. The recent statement from the company’s high-profile figure shows that the company is ready to do anything to achieve its target.
If Microsoft wants its latest op-sys installed on one billion computers, then they shouldn't've made it such a piece of shit. :roflmao: just remember: MS said they will do anything to get that PoS on as many systems as they can. That means FUD, FUD, and more FUD: don't fall for it.

You can only hope Windows-11 will be better. Or you could use this time to climb the learning curve of Linux or one of the BSDs. That way, when Win-7 becomes completely unusable, you can say "Goodbye" to Microsoft forever.

The biggest problem I foresee is that the anti-viruses will eventually stop supporting 7. In the past, at that point I had to move from XP to 7.

I highly doubt that they will change their practices and in fact it'll shock me if they do make them better. I think that they have something up their sleeve so once they hit the one billion mark that they are trying to achieve I think that it'll get worse. I suspect that they are going to start renting windows.

Use panda vaccine :-) Then you won’t get viruses from usb sticks. Although it’s best to be sensible about where you use usb sticks, I repair a lot of old pc’s and a usb with Linux on it picked up a worm when inserted in a supposedly dead windows pc. The worm sits in the inf file so made no difference that there was only Linux on the usb. As soon as I plugged it into another pc it transferred and can then spread to every pc that is turned on, via the WiFi network, and even infect a router. Nightmare. But the panda usb vaccine stops it transferring onto a pc and also “immunises” the usb stock so nothing auto runs. Does both - stops autoryn on the pc and the usb so nothing transfers. It was a nasty worm from over 15 years ago as once connected to wi if it downloads dozens of other viruses. But as said above - back up regularly. Antivirus doesn’t always remove it anyway as it sits in the memory and launches when the pc is turned on.

Anyway it’s a small program and works on W7 as well.

Not looking forward to 01.20 but trying to look at these last months of 19 as an opportunity. As others have pointed out 8.1 as an option, that one's floating on the fence. Leaning towards keeping 7 and dual booting with Linux Mint.
