I was trying to delete a folder which its location was not found

So I was trying to delete a folder which its location could not be found. I googled up a forum and found a fix

type rd /s "\\?\..." into cmd

so i did and more folder route was on the desktop. Here's my first mess up

rd /s "\\?\C:\users\name\desktop"
enter
rd /s "\\?\C:\users\name\desktop\new folder (3)
enter

This command takes some time because nothing happened at first. I restart my computer and come to an empty desktop expect for a few thing. I think in my head oh shit. There go my folders of school work and pictures, all my games shortcuts and various amounts of other things. It's ok I'll just do a system restore

Queue second mess up. Apparently with in the last four years i turned the option of for system restore in the system protection. So my last backup is from 2015.

I have no idea what to do. I hope there is some kind of magic undo for,

rd /s "\\?\C:\users\name\desktop"
but i seriously doubt there is. Please help.

I am using windows 7.

I tried Recuva and all the files that were recovered were all bad and or corrupted.

If you have no full image or folder/file backups, the best thing is to stop using windows and get that harddrive (with or without computer) to a local data recovery person, be prepared to pay money for his/her expertise, work, and special hardware. DIY may or may not have hurt recovery chances.

restart comp keep hitting F8, will bring up that screen - scroll dwn to last known good, (using arrow keys)
select it

I did that and it booted up as most recent with the files still missing. Thanks for the tip.

Is there anything else you would suggest?

can you check the size of your c\users\XXX\desktop and desktop3 folders


mine is only 3mb, with 8 folders, your files might be there, but i wouldn't hold my breath
the files would have been moving between old/temp/new when you shut down, sorry to say the worst thing to do

I assume the xxx is my name? c\user\xxx\desktop is 68.5 Mb and there is no desktop3 folder, or I can't find it.
