im seeing so much information leaning toward the asus, and so much information stating that gigabyte would be the better choice, im just not a fan of the blue on the asus, and im not a fan of not having any pcie 3.0 on the gigabyte. The P8Z68 is an excellent board, far better EUFI to work with. ASUS is the leader with these new BIOS's and is on the 8th generation of their UEFI now. ASUS has separate engineering teams for each board according to the chipset which leaves Gigabyte, ASRock, MSI and the rest fighting for second place.
Not an ASUS fanboy, just giving some factual information there.
Now, if you can wait a short time you might want to look at the Z77 Maximus V Gene board. Cant say to much about it right now but you can read a little on it below.
Maximus 5 Gene
although if i understand correctly, pcie 3.0 is "far from perfected and is not a huge step up." is this correct?
from my understanding, if you are looking at right now, that is correct. pcie 3.0 doubles the speed of pcie 2.0, but there are no devices that can use that bandwidth. If you are looking at a few years down the road (I have no idea how many) then yes it can be a big deal.
