i7 950 OC limits

hey,

first what would be a safe clock or an i5 (not asking for like voltage, just a general ghz range)
and to support it using a gigabyte x58 usb3 mobo
plus,
a cheap and effective cooler?

There is no set answer for oc, you have to take it in small increments and keep it stable and yes voltage is a part of it. My advice if you've never done it is read, read, read because no two are alike and you can at the very least hose your comp or hose the hardware, processor, ram, etc

OC is not like theories, you have to take it to the practice and go little by little, because a single difference in one of the variables:

1) Room Temps
2) Airflow on the Case
3) Type of motherboard (Phase Power Design)
4) PSU
5) Cooling/Thermal Compound

Just to name a few.. could highly affect your Overclocking, so NEVER rely yourself on other's OC. because there are no such thing as:

"I saw this guy pushing an i5 to 5GHz, i have the same processor, let's try it"

Always be careful when overclocking because you could seriously damage your parts if the OC is done incorrectly, take it safe and read a LOT
