To my understanding 2 gig ram is just enough to make win7 OS work but you will not be able to do much else. I upgraded to win7 ultimate from XP Pro several years back and had to upgrade up from the 2 gig to 4 gig.
This is what I can remember the comp dude telling me when I converted to win7.

You could easily run Windows 7 on that system, but unless you are planning to upgrade, you may want to consider using 32 bit. 64 bit would run fine, but it does us a little more system memory, leaving less for your games.

However, if you plan to ever upgrade the memory, go x64 now, as you won't have to reinstall the OS if you do want to add more memory.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

You will be able to run Windows 7 with 2GB RAM, I have a family computer which is running Windows 7 Home Premium x86 with only 1GB RAM.

You can run the Windows Upgrade Advisor to confirm that your system is able to upgrade to Windows 7.

Hope this helps,

Harry
