Icon Colors Appear Somtimes... And Then Sometimes They Don't

Hi:

I am trying to get a new Win7 Ult. 64 SP1 install set up to make an image using Sysprep etc. Right now on my older installation I use a 3rd party tool to recolor my Windows folders so that they are more easily picked out when I go to the parent folder and open it. The app or program works really well and within maybe a quarter second after opening a parent folder the folder icons to which I have assigned different colors change to their respective colors. Nice and fast. This is on my original install of Windows 7 Ult x64 SP1. I don't have a lot of updates on here. Just the ones that have been demanded by one program or another to get it to install and run so that there is not a lot of change from when I first installed the OS as far as the guts of the thing.

My new install I downloaded all security updates for Windows, .Net 3.5 SP1, and .Net 4. and now when I change the color of an icon it may or may not change. Sometimes all the folder icons I have changed will appear but most times when they do appear it is only for the part of the folder which is presented at that time. If I scroll up or down there are no icon color changes and sometimes there will be just one or two changes show up. It is very goofy. And frustrating because now having counted on this method of determining which folder goes in which "pile" my legends at the top of the window are of no use. I usually make an empty folder at the top name it AAAwhatever and specify its criteria in the folder name so I know almost instantly what I am looking at.

There is obviously some hiccup in the updates I downloaded and installed when I first started this new install but I don't know where to begin. The prog I use to color folders has an .ini file in each folder and these .ini files indicate that the icon is not "built" in the System32 folder like the ones that are untouched.

I might add that this also affects files like .exe files .doc files etc.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it or have a suggestion how to fix it. Appreciate your time reading this.

Okay, well I realized my folder coloring program may have less to do with this than the icon database being corrupted. Maybe. So I will try that and read some more threads about this subject. Hate to mark this solved when it isn't so I will just leave it for others to read if they wish.
