First and foremost, I apologies if I have as the incorrect forum as I was not quite sure in which section I was to ask this question about IconCache. I have a big problem with IconCache.db. Without naming any software for legal reasons you understand. IconCache just goes TU, pardon the pun... icons on the desktop and tadkbar go white which is so frustrating and annoying to say the least. The icons come back after a couple of seconds, but it shouldn't have done this in the first place. its the same with the tadkbar go white the back again. I have deleted IconCache.db and its made no difference at all to the situation.

I have done a minor registry hack to increase the iconcache and works ones for the StartIng but nothing for thr desktop and tadkbar. I even created one for the desktop and tadkbar but it didn't work. does anybody have any solutions or suggestion... would be kindly appreciated because its stating to really Censored me Cencored. well I think you understand were I'm coming from.

WOW fast reply,

Thank you for your reply, Can I ask an inane question, which does have value to the question. As Windows 7 has an issue with IconCache why not add a bootup script to clear IconCache each time Windows 7 loads...? Without restarting though,

I tried just deleted IconChche and then restarted... although, from past experience, deleting and then restarting in some cases is not the same as running a command in command prompt.

I shall try this to see if this makes any difference, I would imgine there isn't any coincidence with a particular program causing IconCache to fail each time you load your OS...?

I hope Microsoft resolve the issue with IconCache with Windows 8 because it's a pain in the butt when icons vanish and then come back.

RESOLVED Thank You

RESOLVED :)

Awesome that worked a treat guys thank you for the batch file... great stuff, is this perminant or would I have to run this again if I get a problem with the icons again...?

Thanks again you have made ma a happy bunny, because it was really annoying the heck out of me with the icons turning white and then back to their original state again.

Awesome :) :) :) :)

I will say one thing though, I thought I knew my stuff when it comes to Windows 7... but there are some tutorials on this website I never even knew you could do.

I have recommended quite a few people already about this forum. I know I have said this before but thank you.

I thought I knew my stuff with Windows 7 but there

Warning You might want to backup your registry first before editing the registry

Edit: Increase IconCache Cache to rither 2000 or 2048

What does it do: When you open Start Menu you should see and increase of speed of how the icons appear within the start menu. I for one hate this and the main reason why I edited mine in the first place. Never understood why Microsoft never set this as a default value as it makes perfect sense.

What does make a difference as well, Although I have already added a string and value to the Registry I thought about adding another which also works a treat.

1. Start and then click on Run or Windows button on keyboard and then R
2. Type into the Command window regedit and then press OK
3. we are looking for the following path as listed below

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/WIndows/Explorer

What we need to do now is create a new string value which I shall explain below. Looking at the right window within the registry you will see a list.

1. Right click in the right window and then click on New and then select String Value
2. What you will see now is REG_SZ we shall call this MaxIconCache
3. Rick click on REG_SZ and the select Modify and set the value to 2000 or 2048

1. Right click in the right window and then click on New and then select DWORD 323bit
2. What you will see now is REG_DWORD we shall call this MaximiseIconCache
3. Right click on on REG_DWORD and then select Modify and set the value to 2000 or 2048

Close the Registry and then restart you PC for the modifications to the registry to take affect.

Done
