As the title says Stardock's Iconpackager removes the shield overlay from programs that need to be installed as administrator.

I run the only account on my system it is an administrator account. Is the shield overlay only aesthetic? Will all programs I install on my admin account be installed as (run as administrator) anyway, or will this cause serious issues?

Hello Seanie,

As long as you are getting a UAC prompt (if UAC is turned on to default or top level) when you run the program, then you are fine.

The shield overlay on the icon is just an indicator to let you know that program will give you a UAC prompt when the program is executed to allow or deny it to run as administrator.

Most likely this program just made a cosmetic change.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Brink, so the shield overlay on install packages only indicates that you will receive a UAC prompt when you run it.

Not that the installer must be run as admin, by right clicking on it and selecting run as administrator from the drop down menu,

Correct. If the UAC shield overlay is on a icon, then when you run it, it will be the same as if you right clicked on it and clicked on "Run as administrator", but automatically. That shield indicates that the program will run as administrator (elevated) if allowed when prompted by UAC.
