Hi guys,

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately and one of the current main issues is some of my icons just don't appear how they should. Here is a srceenshot of my taskbar with two of the icons playing up:

captureqt.png

They also look like this in the start menu, if it helps, those programs are windows live messenger and live mail but it also happens to iTunes and all the office programs.

I've tried simply just ending the explorer.exe process and restarting it which sometimes did work but it's not anymore. I tried deleting the icon cache from the app data - local folder but nothing worked there.

Not sure what else to try with this one so I was hoping someone could help me out.

Thanks.

Have you tried going to the icon's Properties and using the "change icon" button, browsing back to the program's directory to select an icon there, or if there is none, the program's .exe to see if that will display an icon to choose?

With many program icons, you can right click and then choose properties and then previous version. See how that works.

Thanks, it worked for the windows live programs but when I click on the properties of iTunes and office word, I can't click on the change icon button.

I'm having a bit of the same problem. It happens in the taskbar but also on the startmenu. Currently my icons on the taskbar are all OK but those on the startmenu are not. I have 2 icons which have been replaced by the standard default icon used by Windows if Windows doesn't know under what category the program (or shortcut) falls. If i go in Properties, the correct icon is shown, i can select another and then back to the one i needs to be but Windows keeps playing up and still shows a default icon.
Tried the icon cashe batchfile (found in another threath) and also performed the tasks manualy but it does not help.

There are other icon problems too.
- Quite a few icons don't appear on the desktop after installing a program. One needs to reboot before the icons are shown on the desktop although a reboot is not required by the program to finish installation.
- Renaming an icon on the desktop can give the same problem. After renaming, the icon is gone and only re-appears after a reboot, this time with it's new name.

(info: the used theme is an Aero one)
