Hello, I am using Windows 7 64 bit ultimate. I am pleased with everything in Windows 7 except this one problem I am having. My two SATA burners are working fine, but my two Pioneer IDE burners are not reading or writing with Windows 7, working fine with XP 64 bit.

My specs are:

ASUS M2N-SLI Delux ACPI BIOS Rev 1701
Phenom 9500+
Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate
Pioneer DVR-117D IDE Firmware 1.07
8gb RAM
Nvidia 9800gt PCIE graphics

I originally thought it was a burning problem, so I copied the log from ImgBurn from a failed burn, even though I have found they do not read either. I have tried different IDE cables, and have tried setting them to Master/Slave and Cable select, same problems.

1 You could update your bios to the latest version 1002 BIOS for M2N-SLI :

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Select downloads - type in w764bit for the OS - the easy way to update the bios is to use ASUS Update V7.12.03 -its in bios utilities - download the file to your desktop install the program - select update from hard drive then browse to the file.

2 You could update the pioneers firmware :

Pioneer USA - DVD Computer Writers

You could just use your sata burners - I think it would ok to update your bios and pioneer firmware, but couldnt guarantee any improvement. If this is your only problem you could consider yourself lucky.

The 1002 Bios is a step up from the 1702 that I have?

I've tried for hours before posting this to update the Pioneer firmware. I have 107 which I believe is the latest. All that site offers is a utility to check the firmware I already have.

Yes I was hoping that Utility would then offer to update the drive - you could contact pioneer as there must be firmware updates for the drive.
Bios - I have mine updated to the latest, and I think or from what I can gather they update more then what they show on the website - that was after reading some of the posts in the asus forums.
Still if thats the only problem the pioneer dvd drives, and its a headache I would just forget it as you say the sata burners are working - I gather they are sata dvd drives.

Thanks Ill try these two and get back. These burners are kind of new, I bought the IDE versions by accident, but Im really kind of attached to them, they tend to burn slower by default, which is a plus, and have never had a bad burn.

You put "unabled" did you mean "enable" or "unenable"?

They were both enabled, so I unenabled DMA, and they're recognizing discs in the drives now. Going to try and burn a disc now.

Sorry..its my bad typing and spelling ..I meant {enabled}I also been told that sometimes windows revert the DMA back when you get few errors but I can not be sure about that fact.

DMA now DISABLED, and everything seems to be working fine... Anything I should be worried about leaving DMA disabled?
