Solved Identifying the login cookie?

Since I have been using various cookie cleaners on my browser (Maxthon 2.5.18.1000), my opening site (home page) now needs me to sign in before it opens to my customized page. I figure that if I can identify the "login cookie," I should be able to exclude it from being cleaned. How does one identify a cookie that is used to login?

Hello Adam,

You could use the cookie manager feature in the free program CCleaner to make it easier to know and select what cookies to keep. This way when youd use the "Cleaner" option in CCleaner, it will also delete all cookies except this you added to "Cookies to Keep".

I do have CCleaner. But as there are many cookies are identified, how do I determine which one(s) are related to the login?

Hi flycaster

The easiest way I found if you have hundreds in there and aren't sure what to look for is clear them all again then log straight into your homepage. Then re-open ccleaner and the only cookies in there will be related to your login for your homepage.

Ok have you tried logging in to your home page then adding it to your home page settings in your browser. Im not familiar with Maxthon so not sure how this is done with it.All the while keep checking ccleaners cookie page for any new ones and save them.I know my igoogle homepage has 2-3 cookies that I save.

If using Option Two in the tutorial below to add the website address of the one you are logging in to the "Allow per site" list doesn't help, then you may need to use Option One to accept only "First-party Cookies" and "session cookies".

As for adding the cookies, a problem I have is that these cookies all look to be tracking cookies having to do with advertising. Thus, I don't want to add them. However, I did try adding all cookies, but that didn't work.

Also, if I do method two, and allow all cookies from my.yahoo, wouldn't that then allow all tracking cookies (and the yet to be identified login cookie for my.yahoo)?

Unfortunately yes. Adding my.yahoo to the "Per Site" list as "Always Allow" will allow all cookies from only that site.

I'm using Maxthon 3.1.3.2000 with Maxthon Passport feature and Private Browsing, with no problems whatsoever.

First, login to Passport and save the password, select auto login.



Then open a Private Browsing window (shield appears on top of your avatar, see the image below) and do the surfing using it. No problems with tracking cookies. All your personalization, favorites etc. is there.

I used MaxThon back in the day. If you're going to use IE engine MaxThon is the way to go. I remember lots of fun people writing extensions for it and giving good help on their forums. Nice browser.

Well, although i don't think I have really identified the login cookie for my.yahoo, I have messed around enough with CCleaner and signing in to finally get my.yahoo to open automatically in both computers without having to sign in. I tried to figure out what I did, but things got very confusing and I'm just happy that I've succeeded in restoring the wanted opening.
