IE 10 : Problems opening downloads

I'm running IE 10 and anytime I click to download something the message bar pops up at the bottom asking if I want to open or save the file. When I click on open, nothing happen. No response or acknowledgement at all. I can save it first and then open it but it won't let me just click open. This happens with all downloads regardless of the file type.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Open would need a program to view the file which would usually be a .txt/ .doc/.. type of file,
An .exe file would usually show save with other items if you click on the menu list arrow

Save is the best way to do it although you can use save as instead
Save goes to the downloads folder where it is some what isolated from the system for limited damage if the file is not friendly....

So lets refer to your security shortly as to which one do you use ?
Usually is the first place that might interfere with download options of any browser.

Open is doing this on all file types. I agree that saving .exe's is the best route, but it's also making me do this for .pdf, .jpg and other files. Most of the time I just need to quickly view a .pdf and saving, viewing, and then deleting it is too many extra steps especially when I'm opening 50+ documents at a time. I scrolled through all of the security setting in IE but didn't see anything that looked out of place. I tried changing some of the settings, but still no luck.

Hi,
pdf well that should of opened in Adobe reader if the site had a proper menu to choose view for that file type
Or if that was your pdf reader and it's browser add-on is enabled.

I checked the browser add on and it is enabled. The site is working fine, I verified that by testing it out on another machine. I clicked on the .pdf link and it lets me click open and view it. Back on my machine I get no response to clicking on open. It will let me save, save as, and cancel. It does this for every website as well.

Post which security you use
And which pdf reader
If Adobe uninstall and re-install

In ie I don't recommend it but go the browser shortcut properties and compatibility tab section and see if you can check the box to run it as administrator.
Might be grayed out.
