IE 8 Wont work!!!

High All!
Just upgraded vista to windows 7 ultimate. IE Will not work. I know i am connected to the net because outlook works OK. Please help!

IE Opens but I cannot brows the net. I have tried to reset IE - no luck. this is the same for both my wireless and hardwire connections.

Make sure your firewall and/or antivirus are not blocking IE from the Internet.

go to tools>internet options>connections>lan settings>uncheck automatically detect settings

Now, actually update your specs, per the link in my signature. Also, be more specific. There are quite a few Viao laptops out there.

What did you upgrade from? Vista 32 or 64 bit? What are you running now? 7 32 or 64 bit?

Another thing you could try is removing IE8 and re-adding it by doing the following.


  • Open Start
  • Type: Turn fea
  • Press Enter
  • Uncheck IE8
  • Press OK
  • Restart when asked

To re-install IE8 repeat this method but check IE8 this time. :)

Ok I have updated my system specs as best as I can. I have tryed turning off the automation detection setting and unistalling & reinstalling IE. I am running Win 7 ultimate 32. Any other ideas????

update - When I press the diagnose connection problem button it returns the following problem "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection" is this refering to the wireless router?

I believe the actual problem is that you can't get online which would point to your Nic drivers being the cause.

I was starting to think it was the NIC drivers but Outlook works just fine. as lousy as vista was I could still browse the internet.

Update - downloaded NIC drivers from hardware manufacturer website. Still no IE browsing. I can get mail thru outlook and can connect to my network harddrive via wireless connection. any additional suggestions!

maybe download firefox from another machine and save to a thumbdrive and install...just to isolate if its an IE8 issue or something else?
