IE compatibility mode and interaction with other programs

Hi,

If any program would want to display some of its content by way of IE,
and if that content would not display,
how would one be able to find out if the interaction failure is on IE's end or the programs end?

Would such display of content be facilitated if one would put IE into permanent compatibility view?

Any other tips or hints to make this work?

Thank you!
:)

Hello svnfrms2r, which version of IE are you running? If you are running IE 9 then you will have problems with site compatibility.

If this was not the answer you are looking for then the usual way is to change default browser/install a different browser. By using a different browser as your default browser would allow you to check if the issues are repeated in the different browser.

Thanks a lot for the tip re IE9.
I went back to IE8, even tried installing IE8vista64, but that did not work.
IE8 only runs in admin mode. MSO probably needs it without admin mode to be run/started in the background for its display of some content.
Will try to remove mso2007 and all related programs, even all other programs in the office directory, and clean the registry til there is no more mention of office, then do a fresh install and see if outlook with bcm 2007 works fully again. Otherwise, it will go to a VM, where it already works. Problems came from an additional mso2003 install, according to the official line (leaving outlook 2003 out) this should have worked...
Any ideas super appreciated, need this working long-term, thank you :)

If you want to run 2 versions of Office the older version must be installed first. So Office 2003 then Office 2007. Only one version of Outlook allowed as you seem to be aware of.

Ah yes, I remember. So after mso2003 install I ran a repair install of mso2007. Do you think that is good enough to qualify for the 'older version must be installed first'?

That might work, you will need to see if it does. A repair install is not a full reinstall it only repairs parts of the install that may be corrupted, so I doubt if it will work.

Thank you! Will keep it firmly in mind.

Just a quick update, progress has been made:
# it is on IE's end, has to do with kiosk mode, found out by testing directly the file-to-display with kiosk mode iexplore.exe -k "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Small Business\Office Accounting 2009\Web\ResourceCenter\ResourceCenter.mht" which displays raw, and not as it should the proper page by way of mht;
# and no, display of content is not facilitated if IE is in permanent compatibility view.

Now I need to find out which bad update destroyed the proper mht kiosk display, since it does not happen on a fresh w7u64sp1 VM. Anybody knows which msft update is the culprit?

Just found out, that running the mht file in another program, e.g. latest Firefox (which cannot display mht), will call IE, and then it displays also raw, not mht, just like kiosk did.

And then loading this mht into the same IE will also load it raw, which is strange, since if only calling IE via the mht yields correct display (IE not started by another program wanting to display the mht).

So it seems it is a permissions issue. And hence I started Office Accounting in admin mode, and viola, it displayed the mht correctly in kiosk mode.

Now the question is, how to fix the permissions, so that admin mode is not needed, since it is not needed in the VM test install, where direct or third party call of mht yield correct display as well as kiosk mht display within office accounting works correctly.

Anyone any ideas?
Any help much appreciated :)

PS: Fixed by tweaking.com windows repair: ie fix and lnk fix.
