IE HTTP 400 Bad Request

Hello,

Maybe try to reset Winsock !!

1. Open up the Command Prompt and enter:
netsh winsock reset catalog (resets winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (resets TCP/IP stack)

2. Reboot your PC

Hope this helps,
Captain

The only thing I changed recently was that I cleared out my cache and cookies when I was installing my new network - the tech and I were trying to get into the signal expander/repeater's page. I was having issues with it and he had me clear that stuff out to see if it was a corrupted file that was preventing me from accessing it.

Hi, ACWN.

Did the problem begin after the installation of your new network and the work you & the tech did? If so, that could be key to the issue.

A couple more questions -- since you are the only one in the household apparently having the problem, does it occur when you are the only one connected to the internet? Does it happen only with a wired connection or wireless as well?

In looking at the possibilities for this error in link that zigzag3143 initially supplied, I

For example, you may have a DNS problem. You can check this using a ‘ping’ test. A DNS problem may be caused by your ISP or may be on your own system e.g. in a ‘hosts’ file.
Perhaps it is due to a corrupted DNS cache. To clear the DNS cache in Windows Vista/Windows7, Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Right-click on it and select 'Run As Administrator'. Type the following and hit enter:

ipconfig /flushdns

You should be able to see a confirmation dialog window:

Windows IP Configuration. Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Started again. Havent gotten it on deviantart yet, but just got it on Netflix (was watching a movie, paused it to make lunch and when I started the movie again, the quality went to crap, closed the window and went to go back, got the error).

Installed Google Chrome and navigated to Netflix to see if I could replicate the error.

Didnt get the 400 error, but I did get an Invalid Code (or something like that) error. So I dont think its just IE...

Any one know what I can do?

Yes, before that it was fine. But I have cleared out my cache and messed with the network settings plenty of times before and its never done this.

No, others are connected most all of the time and I am strictly wireless. The router is too far away for me to be wired.

Well, I did what you both suggested - Capt. Sparrow, Corrine, and I dont know if it was one of those or the act of restarting my computer, but it seems to have worked. We shall see if it holds out.

Didnt fix anything. Deviantart is now popping up with the error.

Strike that. Dont know whats going on. Flushed the DNS again, restarted IE and the error went away. But its not fixed since its still happening. Guess I'll just have to flush it every time it happens?

Strike THAT... it was a coincidence. Just went back, had the same error again. Flushed the DNS, it was still there upon reopening IE.

Wow, Linksys techs are idiots (most of them, any way). I went to them to see if they could help solve the issue as it started only after I set up the new network. They forced me to reset and reconfigure the router (told me to do something with out telling me I'd have to reset and reconfigure), and when I asked the tech that I had to call to get the router working again if I would still get the error after doing all this crap, he told me it was a browser error even though I'm getting it on two totally different browsers and even though it only started AFTER I set up this new network.

Well... we'll see if THIS works at all. Not holding my breath though.

Edit note: Hopefully whatever the Linksys folks have in mind will solve the problem. Following is what I was composing prior to seeing your post. I'll leave it here for what it is worth, particularly since it took me so long to remember where the link was on the MS site for the router placement.

It appears that what ever changes the technician made seems to have caused the problem.

However, I am wondering if the distance to the router is causing problems. I knew there was a page on the Microsoft website that illustrated good and bad router placement and finally found it. The image is at 10 tips for improving your wireless network. If you do not have a strong wireless signal, it may be necessary to get a wireless extender.

The other thought I had was to use the Windows 7 Network and Internet Troubleshooting Wizard. There is a tutorial here on how to open Troubleshooting.

I'm thinking that what the tech had me do caused it too. Hopefully having to reset and reconfigure fixed it.

I cant move the router because its the only place in the house that has a good cable connection. All the other cables in the house are broken up by splitters.

We already have an expander (my signal is always just fine when the error happens too), but thanks.

Troubleshooting didnt do anything, but I'm not having the problem right now.

Well, its happening again. This time its with almost every site I go to. Flushing the DNS doesnt help. I reset the winsock and it cleared one error, but then they started happening on another page.

I have tried searching for answers else where, but they all tell me the same things I have been told here. Clear my cookies, flush the DNS, etc etc...

I cant reset the winsock every time this happens, I'd be rebooting all day!

Okay, so... I talked to an HP tech and after going through all the crap I tried and looking at things his only suggestions were these:

*System restore - shot that down because I just got my set up running normally again after fighting with a stupid menu bar alignment issue. Made my wacom tablet stop working and made norton disappear.

*When the error happens again, go into Programs and Features and uninstall up updates around the time I started having the issue (its like 5 security updates and 2 microsoft updates @_@), and see if that fixes it.

If not, go into the event manager and see if there are any critical errors happening.

I'm about ready to give up and just live with it....

Hi, ACWN.

Since malware removal is my "specialty" area, I am going to ask for someone else to take a look at this.

What anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are you running?

Also, go into Internet Options, click on connections tab > Lan settings and uncheck 'use a proxy server' if it's checked.

Not that I know of. I wouldnt have a reason for it as this is a personal computer used only by me. But I have also had Windows Live Messenger since I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 - back in Nov./Dec. of last year. This problem started happening in Feb./March when we got the new router.

My computer was absolutely fine, then right after the router was set up this started happening. Literally the next day.

Look in programs and features and see if 'live safty' is there ... uninstall it if it is.

Also, running Norton Internet Securities “Stealth Browsing Mode” causes this issue

What i think is some router settings is messed up. Who helped you in configuring it ?? Maybe you might need to re-configure it.
