THANX; yes I am aware of Tab capabilities and their function. I’m pretty computer literate.

In this case it seems that the ability to move a tab off an IE window into its own window space is disabled.
I can move the tab around on the current window, but when attempting to move it Off the window I get one of those Red Icons indicating ‘ I can’t go that’

Hope this clarifies

Dave
PS: It is a company PC & don't know how much I can play with it...

If it's a company PC, i'm not sure whether they'd be pleased with you performing the other two steps i recommended to you... (Disabling add-ons and Resetting IE settings)

It could actually be a local group policy set by your network administrators to block tabs from being dragged out to make a new window for IE9.. If thats the case there is nothing you can do about it...

I do not recommend trying to change anything on the company computer without the proper permission. If I was the company you would loose your job. They might think the same way.

Thanx. I wasn't going to change anything on this PC unless it was just a local-to-me anomaly.
I'll call my Tech Support and see if it's been restricted for some reason.

There is almost no companies out there that are going to lock down the GUI so far that you can't move icons around on your desktop.. thats just cynical insanity.

There are a lot of reasons for either IE tabs to not be able to tear away, and also if often affects the Desktop icons, in that you cannot move them around....

some of the ones I have run into:
1) Aero causes an issue (especially with dual screens) turn off Aero and see if that solves it.

2) if you recently updated Video drivers, roll back to the previous. if you have not recently updated then try to update to the most recent. I have seen a lot of posts about Nvidia cards specifically having this issue.

3) Select "start" button - click "run" - type "regedit" and hit ok.
in the new opened regedit window , navigate to the below path

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\

delete this entry "no active desktop changes" and restart the machine. (this worked for me)
