Solved IE10 and Malicious Software Removal Tool keep trying to install

I've got a netbook with Win7 Starter. It has IE10 already running, and I successfully installed the MSRT. But now Windows Updates keeps suggesting to install both of these (I'm set to notify, not automatically install). Actually, they're present in the list but not checked.

I went into Safe Mode and deleted SoftwareDistribution, to no avail.

Anyone know what's going on with this? Thanks!

It may be updates to them. What is the exact name of these updates with KB number?

Hi Brink.

The IE is the actual program - no KB number. The MSRT is the july version, which I had installed a few hours earlier.

I just ran a test and reinstalled MSRT. Upon reboot, the offering was gone. So that's solved.

So I tried the same with IE. The install failed. I suppose the thing to do is uninstall it and start over.

This is a quandary. The MSRT problem is gone. But IE10 doesn't show in Installed Updates. I uninstalled IE9, the only one listed, rebooted, and tried to install IE10 again, unsuccessfully (IE10 continues to work fine). So I'm stuck. Windows doesn't think it has IE10 onboard, but won't allow it to be installed because it does.

Even turning off IE10 did nothing. I can still surf using IE10. I'm doing a SFC now, which I expect to do nothing. This is rapidly pointing to a factory recovery. I'm sure the problem is simple. It's a question of getting at it.

Sorry, Noel, I already recovered that machine to factory. Next time I'll look at those instructions.
