Ever since I updated to Windows 7 from Vista my internet browsers continually go to "not responding" and I have to go to task manager to shut them down and reopen them.

It does this A LOT. It seems more specifically to happen when I try to play a video, somebody tries to Facebook chat me, or something to do with adobe flash player.

I don't know too much about computers so if somebody could give me a lamens terms fix for this that would be perfect.

Everything is updated (adobe, java, IE8, Firefox, and all the new updates for 7) so I have run out of things to do to my knowledge.

If you did an upgrade rather than a clean install, you should think about, and possilby do a clean install. If this is an upgrade rather than clean install, you will be having continual problems.

If you did not have to reinstall your prgrams, you have an upgrade. We will help you if you feel unsure about the process. You can do a clean install with an upgrade DVD

I don't really know what you mean by that. I did everything I was suppose to do with the CD that was sent to me from Microsoft, I don't see how that is any different than what anybody else has down that went from Vista to 7.

The more information you give the better the chance that a guess will be right. In any case here goes:

Go to an administrator account and type cmd
In cmd type sfc /scannow
Tell us the result

When you installed, did you have to install your programs again, or were they already installed. (example games etc)

No, I didn't have to reinstall stuff like that (games, Office etc.)

I am in the administrator thing and it says that I must be running a console session to use the sfc.

Hi Welcome to SF,

There are multiple reason for your issue that your facing. Rich as well most of use over here would recommend a Clean install (Format the whole thing and install fresh copy of Windows 7). Because in the past most of them had issue with upgrade. Even if your the Administrator Windows 7 as well as Vista has a feature has a feature called User Account Control so to gain Administrator right we have to Right click on the Icon and click on Run as administrator.

To run the System Integrity Checker

Start > CMD > Right Click and Run as administrator > then type SFC/ SCANNOW

1, First thing you have to do would to make sure your Network Card is using the Latest drivers. If your not sure what it is Go to HP website search for Windows 7 drivers for your Computer Model. Download the LAN drivers and install them.

2, Then try to Disable your Firewall not the Windows any third party application like MacAfee or Norton then see whether the browsers are freezing.

3, Check the Event Viewer whether any Errors are Reported

Start > Event Viewer > Windows Log > Application > On the right side panel look for Errors. If your finding any post the Description

Hope this helps,
Captain

It of course is your final decision. If you initiall did an upgrade, you will experience

problems. An Upgrade is just a nice new paint job, on a problem OS, all the old

problmes will come back to haunt you.

A clean install, you start fresh. Everything new and working properly. But, sadly, yes,

if you take our advice, evrything must be reinstalled. You can use windows easy

transfer, to transfer everything except programs, which do have to be reinstalled.

Its your computer and your decision, little more work now, to reduce problems in the

future.

We at the Forum, of course will be available to help with your installation, if you

desire. Good luck

thank you so much for the help!! it's working perfectly fine now!

I was going to take it into GeekSquad to do it, because I didn't want to mess something up. They wanted $129 to do it! I followed the tutorials on here and it worked out great. Thank you!
