IE8 and Start Menu

If I pin IE8 to the Start Menu, it appears as a "menu" item (rather than as a simple link to the app). This is annoying (that's all it is, but it is annoying). Is there any way I can avoided this unwanted behavior and get IE8 to show on the Start Menu like any other app?

Thanks,

JAS

Hi jaschulz, welcome to the forums.

It's only the 'jump list' showing. I'm not sure where you'd remove these entries :p

You can change the Start Menu behavior so that the mouse doesn't activate the menu when you hover it.

"New features" that are not optional are an imposition. Nobody in their right mind wants to go back to Vista, but I want the maximum amount of control over the look and feel of any system I use. What does it cost MS, to make, for example, this particular new feature optional? Why not give me the option to turn it off? (The obvious, admittedly cynical, answer is that it makes IE stand out from other apps in the start menu. If that is the motive, its pathetic.)

If you don't want those jump lists then just go to the taskbar and start menu properties and go to the start menu tab and remove any checks in those two check boxes that you see for storing recent items.
