Hey all.

I use Microsoft Security and it has not detected any spyware or anything. BUT. I keep getting these annoying IE ad pages that are running in the background, so you randomly start hearing voices about the advertisement and only way to close it is to Ctrl Alt Del and fine IE and end process. In the Task Mngr there are usually 3 IE's open. 1 has about 110K in size, others around 10K.

What can I do??

Thanks all

Hi, cmoazz.

I suggest you do the following.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, be sure Quick scan is selected, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, EXCEPT items in System Restore as shown in this sample:
    MBAM_SR.png
  • Click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See the Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

** Note **

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

I'm not looking for 5 AV engines. Rather, I want to see a log showing what MBAM finds and removes.

Malwarebyte found a few, and removed them. I hope it was the IE one..

Hi, cmoazz.

It is always advisable to update definitions prior to scanning. Your definitions: Database version: 4457. The current as of this posting is Database version: 4462.

How is your computer now?

Hmm, it did the update when I installed, dunno...

So far so good! I wear headphones exclusively, so when I start hearing an internet ad out of no where I'll know. I go to Task Manager and see like 3 ie programs running. Hasn't happened yet though.

Also, this malwarebyte is better than microsoft essentials then?

MBAM does have frequent updates so it is possible that additional definitions were released between the time you updated and when I checked the latest release.

Malwarebytes (MBAM) is a good accompaniment to Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). MSE is an antivirus software and MBAM is an anti-malware program. MBAM does not provide antivirus protection but does have support from a large contingent of the security community.
