My copy of windows 7 came with IE9 and the installers offered for download on the site all tell me that it's incompatible. Is there a 64 bit Windows 7 download of IE8 somewhere (preferably hosted by microsoft) I could use?

Along this same line I have I E 7 on my Windows XP sp 3, recently on quite a few websites I get messages saying I should download I E 8 to better view ..
Everything I've read about using IE8 on XP is that they don't get along well at all.
Has something changed for the better with IE7 and IE8.
I hate downloading new things.. then they mess up my pc.
What would you do in this instance ?
I've already read all of this before posting here.

I have an older PC with Windows XP sp3 installed and have been running IE8 on it since it first came out with no problems at all. If I were you, I would create a System Restore Point, or better yet, use something like Macrium Reflect to create a system image before installing IE8. That way, if it doesn't work you can restore things back to the way they were.

Glad to help! I don't think you will have any problems after upgrading to ie8, but one thing I have learned about computer software, it is always best to have a backup plan to fall back on. :D

LJay .. I'm back I've installed IE 8 on my pc.. ( had IE 7).. so far everything is working great.
I did restart after it all downloaded and installed.. I saw a note to get any updates to I E 8 .I did a search found one that applied to my W-XP Sp 3.. so I've already taken care of that update to IE8.
I don't like all the extra toolbars , programs push now.. so I did NOT let Bing dowload ( I do use BING as my default search. )

Anything else I need to do please let me know..
Thanks so very much for your encouragement to go forward with this.:)

Happy to hear that you got ie8 installed and it is working well! To tell you the truth, it has been so long ago since I did the upgrade myself that I don't remember what tweaks I made. I agree with you about the toolbar issue and have either uninstalled, or disabled everything I didn't care for. I don't think you will have any problems with configuring it to the way you like. I also have a newer PC that has Windows 7 installed on it, but still run ie8 on it because I prefer it over ie9. I know ie8 isn't as secure as ie9, but I am pretty careful about which web sites I visit and it has never been an issue. Good luck with ie8 and I hope you enjoy it. :D

I also have a laptop with Windows 7 on it.. I think I have IE8 on there as well, I know I have
it working together.. with this old W-XP ,sharing files and folder, my W7 is Wi-Fi which is really good .. I can head off to the den with it.. to my comfy chair.
I'll get in there and get it all set up like I want it .. may take a little time, then it will be so outdated.. I'll be forced to buy a new one.. lol isn't that the way things go.
TY again.:)

I know the feeling! I bought a build to order PC last summer with all the latest technology and it is already ancient history. :D But I usually try to make it 5 years on the same PC before updating it, although I still use my old PC with XP quite often.

I don't think I'll ever be ready to trash this old W- XP.. some how I love it even with all the
quirks I've probably caused it to have.. , isn't that how we live our lives at time as well.
Thanks you for the reply.
Have a lovely evening.:)
