IE8 Slow & Often Freezes

I've been running 32bit W7 Ultimate for about 10 months & IE8 has been running fine until about 6 weeks ago.
Since then it has become very slow at loading web pages & often freezes for absolutely no reason that I can determine.

In fact, I've started using Firefox whenever IE becomes unbearable. Firefox never freezes & loads almost all web pages considerably faster than IE. But I really prefer using IE if only I could fix these slowness & freezing issues.


Does anyone have any suggestions?
