In IE7 you could configure the browser to open a link in a new tab directly to the right of the tab that opened it.

The same thing can be done on firefox by installing a pluggin like tabs open relative.

Im trying to find a way to do this on IE8 but the only answers I find is no answers :(. Grouping the tabas manually or just using drag and drop to rearange them is not a doable solution if you are going to have to do it 100 times plus per day. Therefore I realy needs the IE7 behaviour on this point

No, I know how to open a new tab. The question is about how do you get them to be sorted the right way in IE8

Unfortunally it doesn't. It does not contain any information on how I can Get IE8 to sort tabs in the way that IE7 did

Im sorry I dont completely understand your problem  but lemme try to interpret wat you are saying....

So basically, are you saying that you want links to direct you to new tabs rite? (i might be misunderstanding you )

"Grouping the tabas manually or just using drag and drop to rearange them is not a doable solution if you are going to have to do it 100 times plus per day. Therefore I realy needs the IE7 behaviour on this point"

but that comment doesn't make sense .....are you saying that the issue is with the ORDER of the tabs or how the tabs are CREATED?

as far as i know, ie 8 is a superset of ie 7 so there shouldn't be any new features.
if you want links to ALWAYS direct you to new tabs, you should use the middle mouse key (scroll wheel) and press it and it will automatically link you to a new tab. If you want the tab to be automatically viewed up front, or save that tab to be viewed later, you can always do that from
Internet Options>Tabs>Settings>Always switch to new tabs as they are created.

If you want the order of the tabs to be changed for your convenience, as far as i know, when new tabs are created, they are ALWAYS located to the right of the previous tab. If your problem was that you wanted the new tab to be to the left of the previous tab, then it isn't possible, and this feature wasn't in ie 7 either...

To open a link in a new tab, if you don't want to use the middle scroll wheel, you can always left click it and then select open in new tab...

If you are on a search engine and you want all the results to open in a NEW tab automatically instead of directly your current tab, you can use the middle mouse key, the left click, or the search engine settings. I knoww that in Bing, if you want the search results to always direct you to another tab you can go to the upper right hand corner and select extras, and change your preferences. In google, the preferences option is right next to the search box...
srry dont know if i helped you or not, but please elucidate your problem for me because I kinda dont really understand...(srry)

I don't know how to explain this so that you understand but I want to change the behaviour of IE8 so that it opens tabs in the same way as IE7 does.

I'll try to make an example.

In IE7:
Open two tabs, lets call them tab1 and tab2. if i now in tab one clicks on a link (with the middle button or use ctrl + click), IE7 vill place this new tab, lets call that tab 1.1 in the following order tab 1, tab 1.1 , tab 2

If you do the same thing on IE8 it will place them in the order Tab1, tab2, tab 1.1

In other words its about how IE8 sorts a newly created tab.

My IE8 does it in the order you described for IE7 (and groups them with the same colour)

Have you got your ordering mixed up in that post?

I understand what you mean. I opened 4 tabs in IE8. Then opend a tab in new window from tab 2. The new tab is to the right of tab 4. So the new tabs are always at the end.

I understand what you mean. I opened 4 tabs in IE8. Then opend a tab in new window from tab 2. The new tab is to the right of tab 4. So the new tabs are always at the end.

Ah yes, I see what mats means now.

I always have 3 homepages open in other tabs but opening 4 from the first tab then going to the second newly opened one and trying to open a new one from that one does this.

It opens at the end of the group.

I use Maxthon so I dont have that problem. It has the option:

Default behavior of "New Tab" command
Open Blank Tab
Duplicate Tab
Open new tab next to current tab

I don't use I.E.. Never have and never will but I downloaded I.E 7 and I.E 8 just to get a grasp of what he is saying.

There is an option in I.E 7 to to open new tabs next to the current tab.

In I.E this option is disabled. They group your tabs now.

What can I say.. Tough luck? Go Chrome :)
